Fun Homes
Although Alison Bechdel, author of our book Fun Homes, is struggling with her sexuality, she was not alone, her father was going through the same battle but even worse. The symptoms of his OCD do not get in the way of him being a great father; however, they do make him unhappy and unable to fully live his entire life. While continually feeding his disorder he distracts himself, masking who he really is, and maintaining the fact he is a great husband and father for his family, burying the truth of his sexuality.

Bruce Bechdel is a perfectionist to say the least and we see a whole bunch of examples in the beginning of our book. One of the main symptoms of what people think of when it comes to the topic of OCD, is the straight edge, and neatness of how they do something. There is a lot of similar small examples of that in this book such as constantly changing the window drapes to match the season. Also, constantly having his kids straighten pictures, clean the chandelier, and dust objects that don’t even need to be dusted. Except one example I noticed on page 14 was different, a conversation between Alison and her father really caught my attention. It was just a simple question directed
