Military Threats of China
Military threats of China[pic 1]People’s Republic of China (PRC) is well known with its political philosophy which is communism but economically, it is a state-controlled capitalism. On the military view, China’s military budget is the 2nd largest in the world after United States of America (USA). Chinese People’s Liberation Army is the armed forces of the nation and is committed on serving the only ruled party which is Communist Party of China (CPC). PLA is recognized because of its development in modernizing military capabilities and defense. Currently, China has spending 1.9% of its GDP in military. With China spending a vast amount of capital on military, this has grown concern on the West and particularly, the US itself. US currently can be considered as a hegemon with its military power and political influence throughout the world. US under Trump administration have stated that China’s main threat is its economy and military. Taiwan (Republic of China), the disputed island that have been claimed by China as their part of country, has been threatened of invasion numerous of times by the Mainland. Taiwan is backed-up by the USA and China has often disagreed with the interference of Uncle Sam. China is investing heavily in ‘asymmetric capabilities’ such as fleet of submarines, advanced modern jets and upgrade-ballistic missiles which are intended to overtake US capacity to project power in the region. According to The Economist (2015), the website has stated that ‘China has stated that all this kind of act was just defensive but its tactical doctrines emphasize striking first if it’s must. Were Taiwan to attempt formal secession from the mainland, China could launch a series of pre-emptive strikes to delay American intervention and raise its cost prohibitively.’ This is the fact where China can be considered as a threat militarily. The Chinese governments proliferating greed is bullying all of its neighbors. The latest several disputes over the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea, China does not deter from taking extreme measures such as putting an oil rig in disputed waters and ramming Vietnamese ships. Concerning the disputed islands, there is no clear proof that whom is they belong to. Still, China should not be provocative and keep the status quo. But its voraciousness goes beyond its sense of peace.
