Only one creature?
“I have a job, a very difficult job, who would like to volunteer?” demanded the all mighty Zeus. More than a dozen Gods immediately accepted the task, but Zeus just didnt feel that any of them were right for this job. Then he spotted the perfect candidate and knew whom he was going to give it to. Gaia the goddess of Mother Earth was given the job, the job to create a creature that could live on earth with the humans. Zeus gave her this job because she knew most about Earth and the humans than any other God. Gaia politely accepted, and shyly asked how she was supposed to make this creature. Zeus handed her a lump of clay, said “It better be ready by tomorrow, meet me here with your creature, and dont forget a name.”, and walked away.

At first Gaia just sat there thinking about what she could do with all this clay and so little time. After three hours of daydreaming, she started playing with the foreign material in her hands, examining the texture. As the day grew on Gaia started sculpting an animal once finished she was impressed with her work but not satisfied. Gaia sat all night producing animal after animal, as it was getting dark it was also getting hard to see causing it to be more difficult to make the clay figures. Gaia had one little lump of clay left and decided to make this animal special, she spent the rest of the night, even though she couldnt see anything until she fell asleep. She awoke from Zeus screaming her name, when she opened her eyes she say each creature brought to life and beautiful. She was ecstatic at all the colors and textures the different animals had. Zeus thanked her for her help and told her she must choose one creature each day to place in Earth and also find a name for that creature. Gaia gladly agreed and started counting.

Once Gaia reached four hundred and counting she knew putting these creature on Earth was going to take a while, but she was happy that each one was different and unique, especially the ones she made in the dark. Gaia named the group of creatures animals and day-by-day found a name and home for each one.
