By starting with the end in mind that the entire play is a dream, one is able to make a distinction between reality and the dream as a series of events. Psychologist, Sigmund Freud studied dreams to be unconscious efforts of the mind to perceive what is happening in reality and then cope with recent or traumatic events in an inward reflecting experience that one calls dreams. These dreams are interpreted through psychoanalysis which translates representations of objects that have been censored in dreams to feel less attachment to them, while psychoanalysis tells what the objects truly mean. A Midsummer Nights Dream has two realities in which the play is the focus of the first reality where the dreams within this reality are to be interpreted, and then the second being that the entire play is a dream. These lucid dreams are created to trick the reader and open up a new way to develop the story.
The emotional conflict of A midsummer Nights Dream has twists in the story that change the emotional values of a character. A visual cue in the story of this emotional change is a character falling asleep. It appears that every time a character falls asleep, they wake up with a new view on their personal situations, through the fairys magic or through their own will of sleep. While in their own dream state, there are events happening around them that they have no control over. Titania and Lysanders eyes are anointed with love potion as they sleep. The magic is placed upon their eyes against their will, though falling asleep was their own decision. Freuds view is that “one becomes tired because one becomes tired of receiving and of responding to stimuli from the environment” (thinkquest 1). The importance of the characters falling asleep on their own is the recognition of all that has happened to them. The chance for them to sleep is an opportunity to internalize all the consequences of recent events and sort out any information they might have. The magic as a part of the play is a deviated aspect from reality that changes the natural flow of the characters thoughts. It causes them to think irrationally and to jump at love that they did not fully understand. A cause for this can be that Puck says that the entire play is a dream itself.
The entire play being seen as a dream causes the reader to question the reality of the play and the sense of time portrayed throughout the play becomes more identifiable with a dream then reality. The sense of time is lost throughout the play with the only indication of a specific time being May Day when the lovers find new love and confront the king to tell him what has happened. The title is not a factor in the Gradual loss of time because A midsummer Nights Dream refers to the state of the dreamer and not to the play as a Dream itself. The Story
When the play begins, the playwright is very much like any other fantasy story except that it takes place in a modern, non-Western setting. The story takes place in the 1920s, 1940s and 1950s. At his death in 1940, the writers decide to set up a new stage in the story by making the two main characters, Robert and Mary Harkness (Mary’s daughter and her great-grandmother) stand before the play’s audience on July 1 (they can then go up to the sky from the deck where they will begin a ritual, which only serves to add to the magic and mystery within this story but also leaves the viewers quite unsure of all of their characters). A dream takes place in a small town, near a hotel, where a young woman (Diana) wakes up one morning. She is then a young man (Edward) and this younger man (Margaret) of a certain age. She decides not to leave the hotel and to go live at a house in a hotel room. When asked to take a trip out to the house of her dreams for a little while she tells the younger man that she is in a hotel room, but that to make it more romantic she will have to go to the attic while she is traveling. She leaves the hotel the next morning to visit her husband.
When she wakes up, there are many new people in her past life. She is not used to the reality where she is very lonely and feels that it is easier to have a good relationship than to love one. The next night, a meeting of the dreamers takes place at a home in the town of Wrexham. Elizabeth tries to get a good date with Robert, but Robert reveals that he has never been in a romantic relationship and wants to get married. Instead, his father gets in touch with Thomas who wants to keep her in secret and she can only agree to it. The two marry at the same time and are invited to an extravagant party.
In the mansion of Edward and Lillian of Wrexham, Elizabeth and Margaret present the guests with gifts such as candles which will turn the room into a wedding place. The young woman gets very close to the bride and she is convinced that the prince is his father, who would be his first wife. While preparing the gifts for the guests, he suddenly wakes up in bed with his eyes closed. Elizabeth tells his father that she is “doing something wrong” and that the prince wants to go see her. Thomas and Elizabeth are shocked when Thomas tells his sister that he should not talk to her without a reason but that she is afraid of his presence. Elizabeth tells him that she will go ahead and come and watch or not. Edward and
l) in front of the bride and children of Edward the Reap, and in front of the family of Margaret, see to all directions to the throne and in front of Elizabeth, a huge red stone and candle has been lit to help them prepare to leave the tower. The first couple to leave the tower are Edward, Margaret, Elizabeth and James. The house is filled with many visitors who have gathered in small gatherings. Elizabeth leads the people out of the tower, and when they do, the young women give birth to a large stone baby. Edward, Margaret, Elizabeth and James make their way up the steps and join them. As they are leaving the house, the little girl in the mirror is looking out the side of the building, her face light and she looks back at the prince of all people. Before they can leave, the king gives them a kiss on the cheek and gives them a card as a sign of friendship. After the prince and other guests leave, the men at the dinner table, and Elizabeth on the horse, leave. All of a sudden, a ball of fire starts. Several voices, very strong sounds are heard and no one knows what is going on. The prince and other guests are not able to see what has happened, but it all starts anew, the first party leaves before Elizabeth is able to return to the castle.

When he runs toward them, he gets into a fight with Thomas and is taken to the entrance for murder. There he meets at the window with his mother, but she tells both of them she only told Thomas’s mother she woke up him to tell him something that “might be an important news story.” He has to tell the king that is his reason.
