The Blind Side is a must see movie, about the childhood of NFL football star, Michael Oher. Michael, was a young, poor, black man growing up in the projects of Memphis. His mother was a drug addict, his father was never really there, and he found himself homeless more than once. He would rather be homeless than be put in foster care, and deal with the steady relocation and other negative disadvantages of the child service system. Michael was very uneducated due to the lack of resources he had growing up, thankfully, he was a bigger fellow and a football coach from a local Christian school sought him out. Thats when he became acquainted with the Tuohy family, and they changed his life forever. One cold winter night the family stumbled across Michael trying to make it to the school, where he occasionally spent the night to stay warm. Recognizing he was homeless they offered him a place to stay and one night turned into a permanent spot at the Tuohy household; seeing how big Michael and SJ, the familys youngest son hit it off so well. The mom, Leigh Ann, took interest in michaels test scores and noticed they were extremely low, but wanted to better him. They hired a private tutor so he could be accepted into a division one university. After the tutor seemed to be working Michael got a lot of offers from many different colleges. He chose to go were his “parents” went, ole miss. After much speculation people began to believe the Tuohys had only used Michael to benefit ole miss. The family overcame that and he went on to play at ole miss, and later for the NFL.

The south had a bad reputation for unfair actions towards black people, however the movie showcases that discrimination is a thing of the past. Michael, was welcomed not only into an all white home, but a private school despite his color. He had athletic ability and was very smart once people showed they cared about him. This movie also challenges the belief of what puts together a family. Its not always pretty, and you might not have it together, but together you can have it all. The Tuohy’s were an upper white class, and open their hearts and arms wide when they met Michael. They didnt care about his color, they saw a young man who needed correct guidance and love; and thats what he got. There were many who questioned them, and if Michael would even make anything of himself and they proved everyone wrong. Michael proved that regardless of social class, resources, or lack of interest people had in him that anyone can be successful. Many problems arose throughout the movie. During Michaels childhood it was made clear of how screwed up the foster care system really is. Although, he was provided with whats needed in life,
