POSITION PURPOSE
System Administrator has primary responsibility for backup and maintenance of the campus-wide servers. As a member of Whitman College Technology Services (WCTS), this position collaborates with other members of WCTS to provide an information technology environment that is consistent with the goals of Whitman College and meets the needs of faculty, staff, and students.

Perform and monitor daily server backup and weekly off-site tape rotation.

Perform system administration of campus-wide Linux and Windows servers. This includes installing and maintaining system and application software and keeping patches up-to-date.

Serve as the primary support for the Storage Area Network (SAN) and virtual server infrastructure.

Management of email systems, including virus scanning, spam filtering and list creation and management.

Assist Director, Network Technology in
Monitoring and supporting critical network services (e.g. DNS, DHCP and Email).
Maintaining and monitoring the connectivity to off-campus networks, including the Internet
Maintaining accounts for faculty, students and staff.
Maintaining and coordinating the security of the campus computer network.
Writing applications using various scripts, macros, and programming languages.
Researching and recommending equipment and software solutions for stated needs.
