Golden Silence
SILENCE IS GOLDEN
In the medical field it is very important to uphold a level of silence, especially with the HIPPA laws in effect in the medical & dental practices. It is in the best interest of the dental team to hold their tongue in the dental office for many reasons. First of all you do not ever want to give the patient a diagnosis or your thoughts on anything. You are not the doctor and you are not qualified to do so. It can get you in a lot of trouble and the doctor in a lot of trouble, such as malpractice law suit and you could get terminated. Secondly you do not want to frighten the patient so try your best to not say anything that could frighten them and also try to maintain a neutral or happy facial expression because patients can read your facial expressions even in your eyes! You also never want to talk about the patient in the office or outside of the office. It is a HIPPA violation and it is against the law, you could get terminated, and you never know who might hear it and that is unprofessional for the dentists office.

Secondly If you notice that a dr. is over charging a patient or doing a procedure and he is charting it as a full procedure and it is not, dont accuse the dr. of it or tell others just keep quiet report it and look for another job. When asked why you left do not tell them that because they will tell other offices about you and you will not be able to get another job. Silence is GOLDEN!

Third dont gossip in the office! The other workers may like to hear juicy gossip but they can turn around and tell the dr. and you can get fired. Refrain from gossip and keep your thoughts and opinions to yourself.

I think the best rule to live by is that when you leave the office at the end of the day you really truly need to leave your work and what happened at work at the office! Refrain from talking about what happened and who was there and what they were there for with
