McClintocks Article
In comparing McClintock’s scholar-practitioner vs Capella’s scholar-practitioner learning model, I found that McClintock’s scholar-practitioner model represents the ideal of someone that’s motivated by personal values, political commitments, and ethical conduct that’s informed by experiential knowledge based off theory and research in which collaboration and relational learning is key. Capella’s scholar-practitioner learning model represents the ideal of helping learners to develop systematic strategies to increase their ability to problem solve and synthesize theoretical applications. For example:  Acquiring information, processing information, evaluating new strategies or approaches and applying and monitoring new strategies or approaches to discipline. Therefore, the aspects of McClintock’s model that supports Capella’s learning model is that learners can share their experiences, views and use resources to support those views in an online environment while being respectful of peers and their viewpoints. Secondly, when taking the role of practitioner and combining it with scholarly values helps the practitioner-scholar learn to become more effective in their professional careers than either of them could provide alone and the moment I chose to obtain my Masters in Psychology I became what Capella calls, “Practitioner-Scholar” (Capella, 2017).The role of a practitioner-scholar within the field of psychology would be someone that’s knowledgeable and well-rounded in the field of psychology. Someone that does research to draw conclusions for an individual or individuals in any given situational instance. For example: Gathering information on how to “manage depression” while you’re at work and based off the information that you find, you as the “practitioner-scholar” would provide the individual with theoretical solutions that could possibly help them manage it more efficiently and effectively while working. Although there are many ways to become an influential figure that help others across the globe, I love the idea of what Psychology brings to the table and allowing us to explore both behavioral and cognitive functions to improve in our everyday lifestyles. Taking on the role of practitioner-scholar will influence me to become better at research and theory, also help me to broaden, strengthen and condition my vision mentally while allowing me to explore the many realms of psychology only for me to grow as a practitioner-scholar and fully take advantage of my full potential as a learner (McClintock, 2003). In my opinion, no matter how much knowledge we as humans obtain overtime, there is always room to learn more. Overall, my vision in Psychology would be for me to master behavioral and cognitive techniques that are beneficial to the adolescent community. In turn, impacting their lives positively. My goal particularly is to understand thoroughly the cognitive differences among adolescents from diverse backgrounds and cultures and help to enhance their visionary dreams and reaching their full potential (Capella, 2017). The practitioner-scholar model helped me to clarify and strengthen my professional vision in psychology by introducing this information to me, “A scholar-practitioner/practitioner scholar is someone that acquire skills in research, apply theoretical strategies and share knowledge through scholarly publications and presentations” (Capella, 2017). This information alone provided me with a clear set foundation as to whom I’m trying to become and that’s to be one of the best in the field of psychology and as a learner at Capella, I can incorporate this model into my studies as a guide to help focus in on my weekly discussions in class, quizzes and peer-to-peer interactions during discussions. And not to mention that it forces us directly to research information to support our views and theories while allowing us to continuously work together and support each other with our visions and who we are to become in the world of psychology.
