Market research drives the search for new products that address the specific needs of developing markets. In Brazil, for example, Whirpools market entry strategy included acquiring two local estabished appliance brands, Brastemp and Consul.

4. Overall in China washer sales totaled 16.5 million units in 2005; Whirpool expects that number to reach 22.2 million by 2011. Emerging markets must be pursuaded to to move beyond washing machines to purchase some other companys appliance.
