Dr. Joseph Brown will be in charge of scheduling over nurses in our department. I will review the final draft of the schedule prior to posting it. We will no longer us paper scheduling for sign-up or will there be group sign-up. We will be using www.schedulue-my-employees.com (Links to an external site.), this way everyone can sign-up all at once from anywhere as this website can be accessed for a desktop, tablet, or smartphone (Dent, 2015). Every employee will get a username and initial password (the system will prompt you to change your password once an email address has been confirmed). An email will be sent to the address of your choice when the sign up period is open and when the sign up period will close in 24 hours. The final schedule will be posted in the department break room and will be update regularly by Dr. DeRanieri or myself. Everyone will have a seven-day time period to sign-up. Overtime will be open after the PRN staff has sign-up. The Overtime sign-up will BE POSTED NEXT TO THE SCHEDULE. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SIGN-UP FOR OVERTIME ONLINE HOWEVER, ONCE YOU SIGN-UP YOUR ONLINE SCHEDULED WILL BE UPDATED WITHIN A WEEK OF SIGNING UP THE HOURS YOUR ADDITIONAL HOURS. Schedule Sign-up Start, End, and Posting Dates Schedule PeriodSign-up BeginsSign-Up EndsSchedule PostedJuly 5th – August 8thMay 24thMay 31stJune 7thAugust 9th – September 12thJune 28thJuly 5thJuly 12thSeptember 13th – October 24thAugust 1stAugust 8thAugust 15thOctober 25th- November 28thSeptember 12th September 19thSeptember 26th Scheduling Requirements- Every staff member must work a minimum of three Mondays AND three Fridays in a five-week period. Every staff member will be required to work a minimum of four weekend days in the five-week scheduling period. (Example: four Saturdays in five week period, four Sundays in a five week period, two weekends in a five week period, etc.).  Each staff member is allowed to request of a maximum of four days in a five-week period. If the rules for signing up are followed, schedule will be granted. In the event that we need to move someone to another day, Dr. DeRanieri will contact the staff member prior to moving the day.

Employee Transfer- In the event that a Registered Nurse (RN) would like to transfer to another unit, a formal request must be made to management in writing and human recourses. The applicant may not have any disciplinary actions against them for one year (365 days) and management prior to interviewing with the new unit must approve the request. In the event the transfer request is granted; the RN must work all scheduled shifts (including shifts that are in the process of being scheduled) prior to transfer. In the event, that the RN is unable to work schedules shifts, this may lead to retraction of transfer request and disciplinary action. Please refer to the employee handbook for policy under “ Employee Transfer.” Rotating Shift Policy- James Rogers, Anne Willis, and Aleksandra Wyatt must pick-up seven days and eight night shifts and seven nights and eight days every other scheduling period. I will meet with the three of you prior to the new schedule sign up period to discuss which one of you will sign-up for the eight days first and the eight nights first. Switches- Switches may be made as long as the switch is even and does not allow RN1 to go into overtime leaving RN2 to take vacation time. The charge nurse on duty must approve all switches on the day of the switch. Overtime- RNs may pick up as much overtime as they would like to keep our department nurse to patient ratio at 1:2. We overtime shifts can be picked up in four, eight, or in 12-hour increments to keep reduce RN fatigue and burnout. (Needleman, 2015). Mandatory Overtime- In the unfortunate event of mandatory overtime, every employee will pick up an additional eight-hour shift. Nurses may not work more than 12 hours shifts at a time. Meaning, no one will be able to work two 16-hour shifts and a 12-hour shift. Staff must come to work a forth day to prevent errors from happening and to maintain patient outcomes. (Garrett, 2008)
