OEC had no production facilities in El Salvador, but sold and served clients since the early 1970s, through independent importers, but was quickly convinced that there had to have its own staff to make sufficient sales, despite political turmoil.

During the last decade, the office equipment company, located in the city of Santa Cruz (just northwest of San Salvador) has been operating a small office equipment operation that has worked at the highest levels and is a valued public asset in the country for many years. The U.S. government also began to consider ending its support for an armed conflict in Nicaragua when it launched a public-relations campaign to raise the U.S. flag after the events of that year. Shortly thereafter, the Office of International Relations, based in Washington D.C., began to put out the word about the oEC’s activities. OEC began building a factory in El Salvador, whose operations will begin in early 1993. This factory will import components for printers that will be assembled locally.
