The denotative definition of family is a social unit living together whose function is to socialize individuals. African American families are known to socialize individuals differently as opposed to individuals of the dominant race. The 1960’s film A Raisin in the Sun illustrates the struggles of an African American family who try’s to live up to the standards of the American dream. Orlando Patterson, Daniel Moynihan, and Robert Staples are authors who relate to the effects of the black family during slavery and within the media, which impacts African American families in today’s society.

The United States
The American Dream — in terms of equality of opportunity and of rights to live, work, and enjoy — is one of the major achievements of the U.S. since the Second World War. But for a long time since that time in the United States, the idea of a family was something that was considered part of American life. Before 1948, people started to want to own something. So when they were able to create money, housing, and housing in the United States of America, their dreams began to unfold, especially in an era where there was a high rate of unemployment that caused people to become economically dependent upon people who were not working at all. The African American population in the United States, especially the Black community in the South, was a large part of the nation’s political base. This, too, made African Americans a key constituency in the Democratic Party, a group that did not feel strongly connected to many of the political issues of todayв. And for a long time, people kept this idea a secret from their families. They wanted to hold on to their memories of the 1960′s with a lot of optimism and a lot of love and even their hopes for a future of being in the spotlight when people would finally find out what that dream was or where it meant to them. It was at this moment in a time when people were being told they were living in a country that was being left behind — that the future depended on someone on the other side of the world, someone who would change that.
The United States has a long series of families and communities. The United States was once a prosperous and prosperous economy after World War II, which was broken by the Nazi occupation of the South and the violent civil wars in the Philippines and China. The United States was also the most populous nation in world history at the time, until the Civil War which resulted in the end of the Depression and the fall of the Democratic Party. And until the United States began to move farther and farther away from its traditional role as a community — the center of its democracy — many African Americans kept dreaming of the United States. With that in mind, it was clear that the best way for the future to progress was to create a family in a family that was more like one in which everyone was equal and just a part of the equation. The concept of an African American family — at that time a family of one individual — would not be about a white couple; it would be about two and one-half generations of children, siblings, and grandchildren. No one had done a better job of connecting the dots than the African American community in the United States. The legacy of that family would be the future generation of Black citizens, that future generations of black men who would continue to thrive with the blessing of this family.
