WE NEED MORE, NOT FEWER PEOPLE As we can understand from the text, the author has not got any direct involvement with the text and its main subject. He focuses the subject only as an outside observer. The author mainly aims to have a contact with a wide range of readers, mainly the citizens of the modern, western civilizations. His main purpose to write this article is to keep his readers away from the nonsenses of the Malthusianism ideology and its supporters. The text mainly involves in and deals with reborned Malthusians and their perceptions and expectancies of life in the 21th century and after. It can easily be said about the creditability of the text that the author supports his opinions with solid and logical explanations and references. He uses the outcomes of different researches, TV interviews that Malthusians attended and publishing belong to them to support his ideas. When you read the text, you can easily convince yourself that the statements that the author has made are simple truths. So, it can be said that I mostly agree with his opinions about Malthusianistic-Apocalyptic views. His technique of contempt the oppositions opinions make you even easier to support his ideas. The author mainly suggests that the growing population of the human race should not be considered as catastrophic or even harmful because in many times of the history of the mankind, more people have always meant more improvement, more progress and productivity. He strongly criticizes the idea of comparison between animals and human being since humans are much more equipped and clever minded creatures. One of the main reasons why the Malthusianistics are wrong is that the underdevelopment issue is a much bigger problem than the extensive growing of humans. The reasons I have given above are why I agree with the author and have convinced by his article. Before I have read the article, even though I was still close to the point of view of the author, I had still my doubts about the uncontrolled reproduction of the human race. However, I have read the article, I can say that my stance on the matter has come very close to the authors. Especially the comparison of the poverty rates of the developing countries which has shown that the poverty has fallen almost sixty percent despite the fact the population has grown 59 per cent. The text is also very related to my home country, Turkey. Turkey has a increasing youth population since the foundation of it in 1923. Similarly, to the other countries of the world, Turkish government is trying to find a proper solution for the upcoming generations. According to the statistical research data I have found, Turkey will have a population of 100 million people in the year 2060 which means that the Turkish Malthusians are in a lot of for their beloved country. As the author mentioned in the text though, the increasing population should not be named as a nations doom but its chance of developing into a better one.
