I First GotEssay Preview: I First GotReport this essayWhen I first got introduced into reading, I was intrigued by it. There were also many times where I felt like I couldnt understand the material, whether itd be science, math, reading or article of that sort. I had trouble reading something that wasnt of my interest. I wouldnt be able to follow things, or understand exactly what the main idea was or climax of that story to be able to explain it to others. In result to all that I became bitter about reading and began skimming through paragraphs, and building a habit of being able to finish it fast rather than actually understand and read what the author is directly telling me.
As I got into this RDG 098 or even currently 099, it has helped me to not only understand but to organize the story, or article or retain information given to me by the author rather than partially understand it. Once I began reading and couldnt understand the material the whole book and chapters began to become a blur. By being in these classes I got steps, lists, and even help on finding out what the first text to look at when beginning to read a book, or even a paragraph. This class taught me the pre-reading steps as well as the middle and end. I also learned that reading isnt about memory but its about understanding the material, thinking or previous knowledge you may know about whatever it is your reading or even establishing a purpose for your reading. Secondly, I learned that making questions as your reading is also helpful in understanding what is going on or even asking if I understand what is going on. Before, learning these strategies I was a weak reader, I always struggled with a teacher telling me or someone telling me to read something and then telling me to summarize it. From learning these steps and helping me to understand things rather than memorize really has benefited me to become a better reader and comprehend what the authors purpose in writing the story or article.
Lastly, I feel this course has helped me become a better reader which also helps me to understand things better when Im reading it. It helps me also understand what kind of reader I am, along with what Im interested in reading also. With these steps given to me as well as strategies its helped me to understand better where the authors purpose and ideas are put to make a story or point. Its helped me better to relate to what Im reading rather than just skim over things. This class has also helped me become confident in reading things and being able to talk amongst my students and professors about the story. As I grew up it was hard for me to get the bigger picture because I lacked on the basics of reading and picking out the main idea or what the author is implying, because of this class it has helped me to get the whole picture of what the author is saying. All in all, I felt like this class has helped me mainly in what I struggled with, which
I have now achieved a lot more with this class with it. I have also become more and more aware of how the students are reading stories and not just reading their thoughts.
