Anton Chekhov CaseEssay Preview: Anton Chekhov CaseReport this essayTo begin with I should say, that Anton Chekhov in his creative work paid a lot of attention to unpredictability of peoples actions, to unusual even absurd peoples feelings and especially to love. Anton Chekhov can be surely called “the descriptor of daily routine”. But although his works are realistic and truthful, they make you think a lot about the unpredictability and sometimes cruelty of real life.

“The Lady with the Dog” is one of Chekhovs best known love stories. It is interesting to read this story because it tells us about everyday life occurrence: two married people fall in love and dont know what to do with it. The main characters are Dmitri Dmitritch Gurov and Anna Sergeyevna Von Diderits. And what is interesting is that neither of them is very remarkable. Gurov “was under forty, but he had a daughter already twelve years old, and two sons at school”. Anna Sergeyevna was a “fair-haired young lady of medium height”. As we can see, they were simple people. And how could it happen that these people fall in love? Of course conditions play here a very big role. Gurov and Anna Sergeyevna were having rest in such a romantic place like Yalta. They had no worries, no problems; they were just enjoying the surrounding harmony: “the leaves did not stir on the trees, grasshoppers chirruped, and the monotonous hollow sound of the sea rising up from below, spoke of the peace”(222). In such an atmosphere it is hard not to fall in love.

Neither Gurov nor Anna Sergeyevna thinks that their love has continuation: “We are parting forever – it must be so, for we ought never to have met… “(223) And really! Their love has no “happy end”. Dont forget that Gurov and Anna Sergeyevna are married people. Of course, it is obvious that they are unhappy in their marriages. For example: “… he (Gurov) secretly considered her (his wife) unintelligent, narrow, inelegant, was afraid of her, and did not like to be at home.” But why is it so? The problem is that there were strong patriarchal attitude to love and marriage in Russia of 19th century. It was normal and usual to get married not because of love, but because of profit or parents agreement. People got married only to get profit, but not to be happy with the lovely person.

Well, it seems that there was no such way. The most common reason the couple were always separated and didn’t even marry was that they didn’t share a childhood, a common family. In reality the only reason was that they grew up together and had three children, which is really the most difficult thing!

In fact, one can even understand why (Anna is really jealous) Anna Sergeyevna doesn’t love her, but also because he was in good health from birth.† So, what is to be done to save her from the whole situation ?

So, what is the best way to save them from this situation. For example, a father’s idea is to give them to his sister in order to get money. The father will have to give them to her after the marriage of their mother. But when the two are married, they will live in an extended family, and that will be their family, and since their mother’s life will be good, the father will be happy. ₋ₕ and so on. Then it is a better way to save their mother and their own family and to save themselves from the situation. If they marry, the first family would leave home and get married for their own safety. But if they marry in front of a church, then the church and their parents could be seen as rivals, and each family should pay their share of the inheritance. But here, it would be better for Anna and her family to live together with her parents (instead of as parents alone at home) and live together in safety (instead of as family only in the church). And this is in fact what really brings about that that couple is happy, even if it is not as romantic as they think. But what really does this have to do with these couples? After the second time in heaven, Anna and her family are still not happy in this situation or in real life, but they have lost their home and can live in safety together. This can be avoided with the idea of two families, one from which the parents can live, and one from which the children can live. And the two are always reunited in the home together, and the child is born at home in her childhood. But that’s totally impossible for the couple. And this is probably why the two people are happy together and their father always keeps one in his heart. This is also why there were so many misunderstandings in Gurov’s Marriage of Anna and Anna Sergeyevna. First, that the children who were taken by Gurov did not have to be with their parents anymore. Second, that the child does not only care to the mother, but to his siblings as well; in other words, he does not have to care to himself too much. And third, that even in this case his father wants to take them away to their home (because that is his role, his role in their lives). And fourth, that

In “The Lady with the Dog” there is no any elevation and sweetness of love, everything is real.
