A Growth Mindeset
A growth mindset is a mindset in which the person would do anything to accomplish their goal and overcome any challenges along the way. A fixed mindset is the exact opposite of a growth mindset. One whom possesses a fixed mindset will make minor mistakes and consider them major failures. Instead of facing there challenges head on, they run and hide from them, and consequently end up facing even bigger problems. People with a growth mindset will achieve higher and greater things than people with a fixed mindset because they put in their best effort and never give up. As Carol Dweck states in her book Genius is Not Enough, “we need to get the job done.” This means that intelligence is worthless if you don’t get the job done. Someone could have a high potential, but if they do not put forth their best effort and complete the job, then it does not matter because they will never be able to reach the point in there life where they are doing nothing but achieving. Therefore if if you do not get work done you will never reach your highest potential. After research, it is clear that Ludwig Van Beethoven embodies the growth mindset and overcomes adversity with a positive outlook through everything. The resources, www.reference.com and www.Newsela.com nicely explain Beethoven’s mindset and how he overcame significant adversity.

Beethoven had it very rough growing up, his father was an alcoholic, although he did teach Beethoven music. He would wake Beethoven up at crazy hours of the night and make him play, and if Beethoven refused or did not perform well, he would get beaten by his father. Beethoven struggled with math and writing for most of his life. He was, at best, an average student. Most biographers believe he may have had mild dyslexia which made reading very difficult. As he put it himself, “Music comes to me more readily than words.” In 1781, at the age of 10, Beethoven quit school to study music full time, and at the age of 12, Beethoven published his first musical composition. Beethoven struggled the most during the last 10 years of his life from being deaf. “In 1792, Beethoven went to Vienna in Austria, Europe’s capital of culture and music, where he studied with the most famous musicians of the age. Beethoven quickly won fame as a genius at the piano. Many Viennese aristocrats helped him by giving him money and a place to stay. Beethoven composed piece after piece that marked him as a masterful composer.” We learn that Beethoven achieved greatness in music history, without a lot of support. He was poor, so he had little food and no place to live. He kept working as hard as he could
