《For Whom The Bell Tolls》 written by Hemingway was known by the public, including me. Not until I read this article did I know that this title comes from a sermon. “Never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee”. Although I am not a Catholic, this word whose profound meaning touched me deeply.

Pray for the soul in your heart when the bell tolls. There are seven deadly sins—anger, gluttony, sloth, envy, pride, lust and greed in Catholicism. I think it’s reasonable to some extent, after all nobody is perfect. There is not much to choose between men. We are all a hotchpotch of greatness and tininess, of virtue and vice, of nobility and baseness. Everyone has his shortcomings and defects, yet it is those vulnerabilities of human that comprise our society. If everybody only see each other’s shadows in interpersonal communication, our life will be of disappointment. Therefore, we are supposed to learn tolerance instead of splitting hairs. Tolerance is not only a kind of accomplishment, more than a kind of virtue. To be tolerant does not mean being so timid, instead of it, it means magnanimous by keeping an open mind.

Pray for the soul in your heart when the bell tolls. Philanthropism is taught in most religions, such as Confucianism, it is not just from God. This proves that love of mankind is significant. Love to us human is what water to fish. Love shines the most beautiful light of humanity, we born in it, we live by it.
