Revolution: A Brief History: How the French Revolution Affected the American Revolution

“The American Revolution was the first major political and economic revolution which did not involve a formal legal, political or economic decision of the U.S., but was carried out with public resources, support from a large number of national and international organizations, and the full cooperation and assistance of both the U.S. and various European powers, all by means of a treaty.[1][2] The American Revolution began in 1787 by the abolition of slavery, but also introduced to the new system the rights of persons under the law of national association without regard to their race. Some of this was accomplished through Congress, the states, the colonies, and the Federalist Party. The U.S.-U.R. agreement of 1799 was the most influential form of American liberalism. It ended the U.S. Supreme Court’s prohibition against the establishment of slavery in the United States.[1][2] However, the European Convention of 1680 was different in its approach to national liberty and in its aims.[3] During this process of change, a variety of different types of people took their place at different points in the political and economic revolutions.[4] Although there are significant differences between the events today, both in terms of the history of the Revolution and the political changes at the time, what is essential to understand is that the original American Revolution occurred just a few centuries before social, political, economic, and scientific change occurred.[5][6]

History of a Modern American Revolution [ edit ]

The first American Revolution was not the decisive event in history because it was a result of the efforts of all sides and not a decision by the political class.[7] Instead, the period of American history was one of the stages in which economic and political changes started. Although it was the American Revolution’s first such process, political forces were not present at the beginning of the Revolution. The U.S. constitution was signed by a majority of the nation’s states before the Convention began. During this period there were numerous revolutions to follow, but the overall situation of the country was less complicated than the one that preceded it in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The U.S. state of Illinois was formed under the influence of the Democratic Party. As governor of Chicago at the time, she had little influence on the political situation. The Democratic Party began to work with a Democratic congressional majority. During the early 1800s, the Chicago branch of the Congress attempted to pass legislation to amend the Constitution.[4] Congress did so, allowing the state legislature to repeal all laws for which it had repealed them in 1867. The federal constitution of 1892, which did establish the President of the United

The absolute monarchy in France became the most powerful state in all of Europe. Yet there was much unhappiness and injustice in Frances class system. The nobles and clergy enjoyed special privileges and did not pay any taxes as opposed to the common people who worked hard and were forced the pay heavy taxes. The nobles and clergy made up the first and second class and the common people such as the middle class also known as the bourgeoisie made up the third estate. The third estate was out ruled easily in the Estates General, did not have a say in government, and started to become disconnected from the privileged classes. The third estate began to want change from the unfair social structure. They called to the government and their monarch, Louis XVI, and absolute ruler. He held supreme and unlimited power during this time period. Louis XVI was already in severe debt from the overspending on the Palace of Versailles and them him and Marie Antoinette, his wife, overspent even more on luxuries. By 1789, the government was bankrupt. They were poor leaders and Louis XVI knew he has to make a bold move. In Versailles on May of 1789, Louis XVI called the Estate General, who had not been called to meet since 1614. The banks refused to give money to the government, and Louis XVI thought this would be the only way he could get additional taxes from he third estate. The nobles though hoped that the Estates General would protect their privileges, weaken the royal power, and gain some control of the government. Also during this time period the many ideas and writing of Enlightenment thinkers led to the outbreak. These thinkers like Montesquieu, Voltaire and Rousseau became widespread and many French people began to be inspired to go against Louis XVI. Another influential encouragement to fight for their freedom during this time period was the success of the Americans to overthrow British rule. During the American Revolution, France played a role sending its navy and troops causing contact between the Americans and the French and evolutionary idea spread between groups. France was falling apart inside and outside of the government; and the French people were ready for change.

For the French people, the French Revolution was a positive thing, limiting the monarchy, creating a more fair tax
