Pasteurs most major and popular achievements were in the fields of germ study. His achievement in the field of germ study was that germs needed certain microorganisms to develop and by using that information he discovered that fermentation of yeast could be postponed. He then found sensible ways of destroying bacteria in milk without taking out the protein in milk. The discovery was fundamental and made milk safe to drink. The process of killing bacteria in foods was named after Louis Pasteur called pasteurization. Pasteurization saved many lives by creating ways of the spread of germs and disease.

Another one of his achievements was the cure for anthrax. Anthrax is a disease that mainly affected the cattle; the cattle is usually affected in the skin and lungs, and it can be transmitted to humans thus causing sever skin ulceration or a form of pneumonia. He gave the cattle a weakened form of the illness and the cattle were able to develop an immunity to the illness. The achievement of the disease allowed for more cattle to be used for food products and material without getting humans sick. The success of the cure for anthrax motivated him to research about rabies thus leading to the cure of the disease. As he did the same for the anthrax, he used a similar process and made a weakened form of the disease and tested it amongst animals that were affected with rabies. The test was successful yet he did not want to test on humans because he feared it would not work. He was willing to test on himself but before he could, a young boy who had been bitten by a rabid dog 14 times came to him and his parents agreed to try the test on him. Thankfully, the test was a success and soon the treatment spread and later over 350 infected people came to Pasteur for treatment. The cure for rabies was a important to the world because it is a deadly viral infection and was very common disease at the time.
