Owning a pet can be a great experience for young and old. Theyre loving, cute and silly creatures always ensuring you of a good laugh. About 62 percent of all households in the United States have a pet. However, a lot of people do not realize that owning a pet is a big responsibility. While anyone can own a pet that doesnt make them a good candidate for proper pet care; having a pet is a lot like having a child. It requires a great amount of love and care. Pet owners can be classified into three categories, in terms of attention given to their pets. This is what leads me to the different types of pet owners the responsible pet parent, the vain attention seeking pet pal, and the detestable pet owner.

The proud pet parent loves and cherishes their pet. Pet parents often refer to the pets as their babies, often picking them up and kissing them. They provide all necessities for their pet such food, water, bedding, and cages. They take the animals to vet when they are sick and also make sure that they are healthy. Though they may have busy schedules, they make time to spend with their pets; if they own a dog, they might take him on run around the block after a long day.

The pet pals are the very most selfish type of pet owner. They often time forget about their pet leaving them in cages or confined rooms for long periods of time while theyre away. Usually the pets never get to leave the house unless theyre going to some ridiculous pet party! They see taking care of their pet as buying cute clothes, costumes and taking them to the groomer. Most of the times these mean pet owners dont even spend time with their pet and when they do, its just so they can get attention from others.

The detestable pet owner is the lowest, absolutely worst type of pet owner. They often get pets they care nothing about. Whether it is by chance or mishap that a pet should come into their presence, can be a fatal mistake. These pet owners hate pets. They beat, starve, and mistreat their pets. Some are just neglectful and will leave the pet in a filthy cage or backyard for days without food or water. Even when the pet has a severe injury or disease, they will not hospitalize the animals. Most animals lovers will call APS on the lowlifes; in extreme cases they are fined and jailed.

All in all, if people knew how much love, attention, and responsibility a pet truly requires, maybe a few of them would strongly reconsider ownership. I for one believe that a pet is not an item but a companion or even an extension of you. Pet ownership is a full time job, so I would advise anyone who is considering a pet to get a fichus plant and practice keeping it thriving first.
