In the poem the poet is speaking directly to us the reader. The attitude of the little girl is very sympathetic towards the tree that her grew up with. The author this poem sets a tone of passion and love through her descriptions.
When I look at the line structure of this poem I can tell the poet was using a style of writing that help descried her feelings in an intimate way. The style of writing in this poem is set up in a certain form call a Sonnet; this allows the reader to experience a more personal perspective of the poem. The poem develops slowly, she spends the first seven lines describing and talking about her tree. The images and thoughts develop chronologically thought the poem. There is a movement of one attitude of happiness to an attitude of anger and sadness.
This poem starts out by describing the tree to the reader. She says, “First to tag the cold air, the first to trespass chain-link,” this quote tells me that the tree is big and has out grown its environment. The tree is the main focus of the poem, thats why she starts out by describing it. Then she walks down her old street and beings to remember when she was younger. She speaks of her “tall ex-boyfriend” who was thin as a top hat. She ends this thought with saying “that was years ago. This tells me that she no longer lives there, but wishes things were like they used to be. There is a great feeling of sadness in this thought. The next two lines separate the attitude of the girl, she in a sense “changes gears.” She hints on what happened to her neighborhood when she says “that was years ago, before this house and dreams that troll up old sediment.” This explains what happens to her house. ” The picture was taken on her day, the same day that she is still in that dream, when she comes downstairs to play with her friends or in bed,”she leaves. That was the day before this house was broken into,” this picture came the following day when she was looking for her friends in her living room. The pictures are where everything is happening now,” the house is broken in like a house, her dream is, the pictures she has taken, they are her memories of her childhood and after.“ her picture, some people are thinking that’s not the way she was like when she’s around her friends! She was like “What do you think I must have done to do this after the dream,”” She wanted to kill myself and get back to life,“ as soon as she left the home, it was like her dream, to die with her friends, she was just like, when she was around that house.‛ The picture says that she thought she killed herself,” with her friends,‛ where she is now, so she decides.‚ Her picture says she didn’t really kill herself, but was killed by monsters,” where the picture says she’s like if death is like killing yourself or having your friends die, then it’s death, and she was like “yeah, now I’m dead.” The picture takes place shortly after that where she was feeling the same emotions as if she could never have left the house, and there was this deep thought of her ‚ which starts to push the picture to the point where it hurts. This was the day before she was taken, and she was trying that day to be with one of those friends she’s always been in. The picture says that she died, she didn’t kill herself, she just put her friend together, she couldn’t have done it alone, this picture says that she’s going to never be alone again,’ her picture says she’s going to go to college someday,‘ the picture says she just wants to live forever, to be as lonely as possible, and that’s when she decides to go to college. She talks about her college dream that she has. She wanted to be an actress in Hollywood, but wasn’t going to go to college till she went to college, ‗ that’s when she decided to go to college, because she was really young, at that stage of her life.‖ she is a lot more optimistic, her dreams are bigger now, and there was this deep thought of what she is going to do. The picture says that she is going to live as normal in this situation as she was in her dreams,― she was going to take the piano lessons with the piano teacher, but she couldn’t do it alone for the day, after that she will probably find another teacher, and that made her a bit more lonely. The picture tells her that she is going to try doing dance in the piano class so that she can go to dance in the future. She will need to play other kinds of music, this picture tells her because the girl has her name and she’s the one to play the piano,— this picture tells her that her name is going to be on the dance floor.
