When many people discuss who is the most popular athlete in the world many names come to mind such as, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and just a few more who could take that role, but in my opinion its most likely LeBron James. Those who watch the NBA know what basketball is all about. It is a sport that requires stamina, strength, intelligence, teamwork, and the knowledge of knowing how to dribble and score the basket. I think that the best player that has all those qualities better than any other is LeBron James. According to Danny Golden “he can do some things with a basketball that have never, and may never be replicated.” Michael Fitzpatrick agrees that “he can get his shot anytime he wants it.” That is why LeBron is the best. “The dude shoots from everywhere”

On December 30, 1984 a little boy was born by the name of LeBron Raymone James to the parents of Gloria James and Anthony McClelland in Akron, Ohio. At the time Gloria was only 16 raising a child on her own. Life was often a struggle for Gloria and LeBron. Having to grow up in a broken household LeBron did not have a farther to show him the right path to follow. However, he did have a strong mother who did her best to raise James along with some family members. She worked to be a caring mother and protect James from violence in the streets which was not a easy chore to do at times. She started dating a man by the name of Eddie Jackson when James was two. Eddie stayed in and out of trouble with the law, and ended up going to prison in 1980 for aggravated cocaine trafficking. Nevertheless, LeBron still loved having a farther figure in his life and formed a bond with Eddie. (LeBron James, 2005).

All through high school James family struggled with financial problems but LeBron had the will to carry on. In football, LeBron usually played receiver. His coach Frankie Walker started to hear stories that James started skipping school on a regular basis. Soon after he discovered that LeBron had dropped out, when Frankie confronted James mother she confessed that LeBron needed a stable place to stay and decided that LeBron should move in with Frankie and his family. For James, an advantage of living with the Walkers was his friendship with Frankie son, Frankie Jr. The two became friends with four other young boys and together started an impressive team on the basketball court.

As high school came in LeBron continued to get taller, stronger and better than the rest of his teammates, his coach noticed his skills and he made varsity as a freshman. He played for his hometown high school basketball team at the St. Mary High School. He was known as “Mr. Basketball of Ohio” and was viewed by the media
