On October 17, 2010, I had a life changing experience that I will never be to forget the lesson that I learned was responsibility. On that day I learned the most valuable lesson in my life. It was a normal day like any other I had just started school over at Everest college things could not get any worse for me. It was the second week at school, and I was pretty excited to start at school and pursue my career. During this time I was also going through some financial problems, I was dealing with the loss of my job and not being able to pay off my debts.

It was on a Tuesday that this life changing experience occurred I had heard many people that had experienced this before talk about it, and how it had affected them, but I chose not to believe. It was about 11:00 a.m. and I was in my Public Speaking class minding my own business and getting my work done, like I usually do. As we were concentrated in our class work, there was a knock on the class door. Everybody turned to look. It was one of our faculty staff members. As one of the students opened the door, all you hear him say is “Emeryk”. I turned to look at him, and as I turned to walk toward him I noticed that his facial expression was one that looked like he had bad news. I approached him and he said, “I have some bad news bro”, I got scared in my head I was wondering what had happened, did some die? Am I getting kicked out of school? What? He said,”Emeryk the repo men are here to pick up your car,” a sigh of relief ran through my body, not because they were picking up my car, but because the news could have been worse.

At that moment I knew what it felt like to lose something that was of value I had especially when I struggled, strived, and worked hard for that car. I felt like emotions were running crazy I felt sad, disappointed, mad, and confused. I didnt know what to do I felt like everything I had worked for had gone down the drain. I had no other option but to go and talk to the repo men and surrender my car. I went to the top floor where they were waiting for me the asked for my keys and to sign some paper work. I did as I was told. I followed them to my car, and took a couple of personal belongings with me and off my car went.

That day I realized the importance of responsibility and how important it is to follow up with your commitments that you make, such as making sure you keep up with your payments not just car, but credit cards as well. This experience helped me to become a stronger person in the form that I still kept moving on even without my car, also more responsible because now I know the sacrifices that one makes in order to have material thats worth of value. There on after Ive been making my car payments ever since. I didnt get the chance to get my car back but I bought another. This was a life altering learning lesson for me that I will never forget.
