Great Minds Think Alike
My life has been amazing so far. Through all the ups and downs, smiles and frowns I wouldnt trade it for any other life. I did it all by holding true to my beliefs and my philosophies. No one described my way of thinking better than the man himself, Kanye West. In the song “Last Call” off of his debut album The College Dropout he spits, “Now I could let these dream killers kill my self- esteem or use my arrogance as the steam to power my dreams.”(West, 2003) Now anybody thats knows me , really, would tell you thats exactly how I think. Some people might say that I come off as arrogant but its not that at all. Its just that i dont let people assign me a life. Through my life Ive always heard, ” O he cant, o he wont”and every time i heard it, more pressure was applied on me to succeed. Now, some people would use that as an excuse to give up. Instead, I chose Kanyes second resolution, that way if nobody else believed in me, I would. People think that by talking to me they instantly have the key to the man known as Antonio Spivey. So if i dont excel I ve just became a stereotype. So, I used my traits to make my dreams that much closer for me to grasp. I dont want to be one of those men out there running from the police, even though every black male already is. “Calling all cars, be on the look out for a black male between 4 7″ and 6 8”, thats what you here on the police scanners of whenever a crime is committed. This quote really inspires me because it makes me realize that someone else has made it thinking the same way I do. All my life there has always been somebody to say youll never make in life with that type of attitude, but yet he has. It inspires me to stay myself no matter whats thrown in front of
me because I am what I am and nothing more. I cant be what these mental bounty hunters want me to be. I have to be Antonio because thats all I know how to be. I wont let John Doe an Suzy Who dictate and calculate how Im supposed to act. I wont let my dreams be exonerated by these people dont care about me from a blade of grass. So basically this quote inspires myself to inspire someone else because thats what it did for me.
