1. What kind of work do you do? Roseline Okoro is a Nurse Practitioner. A nurse practitioner is a registered nurse (RN) who has additional education and training in a specialty area such as family practice or pediatrics.
2. How long have you been doing it? She has been doing it for about 4 years now. Recently graduated with her doctorate degree in Nursing.
3. Can you describe a typical work day? A typical day at work for Roseline is seeing a patient then she will get the patients history, including family, medical and surgical history. She will then ask the patient about her symptoms and give the patient a complete physical exam.
4. Why did you end up doing this work? What kind of person often does this sort of work? She described her work has having fun not really a job. When you love what you do you do not consider it a job. She loves helping people that is her first reason why she feel in love with being a nurse. I think a person that is loving and caring about other peoples health.
5. What do you like about this work? She loves working with others and helping others with health issues. Giving advice to help others in the future to remain healthy makes Roseline love her job even more.
6. What is difficult about this work? The most difficult thing about working as a nurse practitioner is not seeing your patient happy or doing well in their health. Roseline loves and cares about her patients. There she shares a bond and eventually becomes friends.
How do (customers, others in the company) treat you? Customers treat her with respect and are often friendly to her. The company that she works with treat her like she is apart of the family.
7. What do they think about the job you do? The company that she works for loves what she has done. More customers are coming in for her and business is booming in her area. They love and respect her no matter what she does.
8. How does being a Nigerian woman play into the work you do? Roseline is an American citizen. She came over to the United States when she was in her mid 30s. Working in Nigeria is a bit different from working in the United States. As a Nigerian woman, their role in the house or work place is to be caring and loving for others. Its more of a culture thing actually. Being loving and caring towards others in the workplace is a great way to learn what people are about and how to treat others in the future.
