Caesar Essay

Julius Caesar was justified in moving against the Senate of Rome. He was justified because Romans were jealous of his power and wanted to throw him out of power. Julius Caesar was also very fair to Pompey even though he despised him. Also Caesar only wanted power like Pompey did and had to compete with him for it. The Senate was on Pompeys side and that is why it was just for Julius Caesar to move against the Senate.
Julius Caesar was justified because Pompey and other Romans were jealous of his power. They just wanted him out of power. For example, “Pompey at first did not stir in it, but Marcellus and Lentulus opposed it, who had always hated Caesar, and now did everything whether fit or unfit, which might disgrace and affront him. Marcellus and Lentulus both did not like Caesar and that is why they wanted him out of power. That is not a justified reason to take someone out of power. Also they did unfit deed just to make him look bad. Jealousy and hatred should no interfere with government.
Caesar was also very fair. Even though Pompey disliked him and was jealous of him Caesar was kind to him. For example, “For he proposed to lay down his arms, and that Pompey do the same, and both together should become private mean, and each expect a reward of his services from the public.” Cesar was fair and wanted to make peace with Pompey. Caesar wanted to make peace with Pompey even after Pompey tried to take him out of power.
Caesar also just wanted power like Pompey did and they had to compete for it. To achieve power Caesar had to overthrow Pompey. For example,” if one of them wished to make himself the greatest man in Rome, he had only had to overthrow the other:” So both Pompey and Caesar were trying to gain power. The Senate was on Pompeys side so in order to overthrow Pompey and gain power Caesar had to move against the Senate of Rome.
In conclusion I believe Julius Caesar was justified in moving against the Senate of Rome. Caesar was not liked by the Senate so in order to gain power he had to move against the Senate. Pompey and other Romans were also very jealous of his power and were trying to overthrow him out of power. Even after all these Romans were cruel to him, he was very fair to them. Caesar was trying to gain power in the correct way but Pompey was trying to gain power through corrupt acts. That makes Caesar a good leader and virtuous.
