The play is based around a power struggle between Julius Caesar and the senators whom believe Caesar is too ambitious. The play demonstrates that any time someone new comes to power there will always be those you conspire against them.
In act I, Julius Caesar holds all the power in Rome; many people plot against him due to doubts of his capabilities. Cassius fears that Caesar will become a dictator and will have too much power. He feels that Brutus would be a better leader for the people of Rome, but Brutus doubts himself. He thinks that Caesar is a good person and is very close to him. He doubts that Cassius has good intentions and he doesnt know what to do. Cassius confesses information about Caesar to Brutus. He tells him about this swimming race that Caesar challenged him to. During this race Cassius had to go and save Caesar because he was going to drown if he didnt. Cassius was trying to point out Caesars flaws to Brutus to prove to him that he would be a better leader. Caesar has the falling sickness they find out, which means he has seizures. He is also deaf in one ear and thinks too highly of himself. Cassius tries very hard to convince Brutus that the people would want him to lead them instead of Caesar and its the right thing to do for the good of Rome.
In act II, Julius Caesar is still in power, but the conspirators want to change that. Caesar was warned about the ides of March, but he ignored the warning. Brutus is still questioning the fact if he should join them or not. He is a close friend of Caesar, but wants to do what is right for the roman people. Brutus receives a letter on his window and it written to try and persuade him into killing Caesar. In the letter it says that he needs to stand up to Caesar and it is what the people of Rome would want. He finally decides to join the conspiracy and they plan on killing Caesar at the capital the next day. They didnt want to kill Antony as well because Brutus thought he would be nothing without Caesar. Portia tries to find out what is going with Brutus, but he refuses to tell her. Caesar receives another warning, this time from his wife. She tells him she has had a dream that there was a statue of Caesar with holes in it and blood was running down it. The roman people were bathing in it and smiling. She told him she thought something terrible was going to happen to him and told him not to go to the capitol. He tells Decius about her dream and tells him he is not going to the capitol. Decius turns it around and says that it was the blood of the Romans in her dream and it was lucky. He requested to have all those close to him at all times, but he does not realize that those close to him want to kill him.
In Act III, Julius Caesar holds the power a little bit longer, but Brutus will soon take it from him. The one person that Brutus doesnt didnt look out for, will take the power from him. When Caesar arrives at the capitol building Artemidorus tries to give him a letter. Caesar says it can wait and ignores him. Little did he know that, that letter was telling him he was going to be killed. He was stabbed 33 times by some of his closest friends, the senators. The last one to stab him was Brutus and Caesar loved him dearly. After they kill Caesar the conspirators wash their hands in Caesars blood. They leave Antony and give him time alone to mourn. Brutus goes outside and makes a speech to the Roman people stating that they had killed Caesar. He convinces them to go along with him and to let him take power. In Act IV, Caesar leaves the place to go to the funeral. But the government thinks that this is all bluff. But Brutus will soon be assassinated, a story that will be forgotten by the population. He will join the Roman army and return to the Empire. When he goes back to the castle for revenge he will ask to be shot at with a pistol at the palace. Caesar replies and shoots Brutus, then makes him wait. But Caesar says that he can’t just wait after he and Brutus fight. Brutus takes a knife and stabs Brutus with it, taking Brutus’ life.
In Act V, Antony and Caesar come to a crossroads to avenge the death of Caesar. Antony is angry with Brutus and threatens to end all time. Caesar tells him that because Brutus did have his heart set on revenge, the only thing that could keep both of them here is a time of peace. As part of the reconciliation between their children, Brutus had his first son. The government was worried so that Brutus’ son will rise up and win back his throne. But the government has one final plan to deal with. He tells it he wants to be his father and will marry.

In Book 7, Caesar is confronted with Antony and Brutus, as well as a group of guards trying to stop him from being murdered. When Brutus attacks Antony and Brutus, Brutus tells him that all they want is vengeance and that they won’t stop. The guards come to confront Brutus, but he doesn’t help them; he only makes his threat in front of his parents. Brutus orders the guards to come to his house before he gets out. They fight until he runs and runs into a wall again. Brutus then comes out holding the pistol, so that the guards can come and find him so that Brutus can take part in their torture. However, Brutus kills Antony. So that Brutus can try to run though the guard by himself, Brutus tells the guards that if the guards don’t kill him, the only other thing Brutus can do so is to be with the guards to try and stop Brutus in his tracks.
In Book 8, the war rages between Caesar and Brutus and their children. Brutus is so angry with Brutus that he shoots Brutus with it, causing Brutus to fall down a staircase to the palace. He is still alive but is now being punished. Brutus is too angry to let Caesar escape and shoots at Caesar, but Brutus holds him, and at the same time tells Brutus not to do it in front of his children. Brutus and Brutus fight to the death to get Brutus out. Brutus manages to kill Brutus. They then break through the wall and escape. After escaping, Brutus tells his sons that if he kills Caesar, they will become the last of their age. It is believed that when the Children see him they are very happy because they are happy to see them again in Roman hands. Though, at this point Brutus is so jealous of Brutus that he says
