Tonight, for the most part, was a night indistinguishable form any other night. The group, which included Joe boos, Julie, Jackie, bob and of course myself, all sat in the big corner booth inside Johnny Vs -a restaurant we visit on a nightly basis. We all discussed the same, usual, unexciting topics: work, school, music, politics, relationships and so on. But on this night another interesting topic came about.

“I think can do that!” bob proclaimed, in a very deafening voice. As I took a look at the paper I noticed the article that bob was glaring at. It was titled in big bold letters “Worlds Eating Competition” and had a picture of the current world champ , Taker Kobyashi, eating a hot dog. “Bob,” I stated, “these guys train months and months for this, and quite frankly I dont think you would stand a chance against these guys.” As I looked around the table it seemed that everyone else was in agreement with me. Joe even had a slight smirk on his face.

Bob dropped the paper and stood at full attention. “I guarantee you , Mr. Raymond, that if I put my full potential into this, I might not be number one, but ill be good!” This was bobs usual Johnny vs antics. He was very competitive, and always wanted to show everyone he was good at what he does, even” if he never did it before. Jackie, who was usually quite, intervened ” seeing as you have never been in eating competition before bob, maybe you should do something more Ðlocal.” Pondering Jackies idea, I peered around the restaurant and then it hit me. “You could do the king of Johnny Vs!!!” I exclaimed.

I then grabbed bobs arm and escorted him to the wall that held the information of this challenge. The others at the table scurried behind us eager to get information of this event. We all huddled up and read the contents of the wall. “It says here that there has been only three people whove done it before.” The portrait of the three gentle whom partook in this particular event depicted them just like I thought – overweight. Even though bobs frame was nothing like the other participants I could tell he was determined to do this. The rules were also posted on the wall. They read: The participant must stay seated for the entire time. Also, she/he must eat the entire plate in the allocated time. What was not listed on the list was how much food that needed to be eaten. I then grabbed a waitress and asked her. She then replied ” ten pancakes, ten eggs, a pun of hash browns and two of each breakfast meat. I didnt understand how one man was expected to eat that much food, without being rushed to the E.R soon after

I thought the idea of eating all this food would defeat bobs ego, but it seemed to only make him want to do it more. “If only I had someone to do this with” he said. As I looked around I saw that all eyes were on me. I was getting dragged into something I wanted no part of. But
