Treasure IslandTreasure IslandJim Hawkins, a young boy working at an inn with his parents, meets an old sailor called “the Captain”. This year Jim’s life was saved from going through the mists by Captain Smollett. The Captain gets a message from a young girl from the family about an unknown ship. An unnamed sailor shows up with a scaly girl who has never seen him. He asks Jim how the sailor saw her and he tells her that “he came too late to save the crew-mate from drowning. The young girl claims that she saw the ship as she was washing her clothes. The captain asks if she was scared for her life, as she is afraid to come out and be alone. He is later left stranded in an abandoned house as the house-keeper does not recognize him. Jim wakes up in his room, a scaly girl in his arms asking to talk to him. He remembers seeing a woman and that she gave her name as the name of the island. Jim then asks her how she told him about her family. Jim agrees to talk to them, saying that the woman is a ghost. He finds her and tells her that he does remember seeing her in her house. Jim is scared, but asks her why she told him the story. She responds that she didn’t do that to scare her daughter. She also told him that the Captain knows about a shipwreck and wants to go to another location. She also reveals this to Jim. And she said, she is a ghost. Jim says he is a little confused and goes to investigate. At last Jim finds a sign in an abandoned building. He enters and finds a girl who is asking for protection. He asks if she has a brother. She says she is Jim’s sister or whatever the situation is. Jim wants to know how long she was in the water between her body and the island. Jim says he knows the girl, but he does have to keep her a secret. An elderly woman came back to visit Jim a couple years ago so they come face to face. She says she didn’t know but they’re coming up the next day so they’re not afraid to go look for her. “They say that you have to work hard.” She goes into the living room to tell Jim that her sister will take care of her back now. Jim says he’s not afraid at all. He is confused over this. Jim doesn’t understand. He’s confused because her spirit is alive the rest of the day. And Jim and the ship’s captain are frightened and have no idea where their sister is. Jim doesn’t even know when she was there. Jim is worried because of the shipwreck. It’s dark out so he wakes up in his father’s room. The young man says she was the mother of his sons but he hasn’t seen her for quite a while. He asks who she is and they say she is a young woman who was born before Jim met her but has been in this place since she was ten years old. “She came along to

Just before the island is sighted, Jim overhears Silver talking with two other crewmen and realizes that he and most of the others are pirates and have planned a mutiny. Jim tells the captain, Trelawney, and Livesey of the mutiny and plans are made to fight them off. The captain finds a fortress on the beach and decides it will be the best place to fight off the mutineers. Jim, in his exploring of the island, finds a man who was marooned three years before Jim arrived. His name was Ben Gunn and he agreed to help fight the mutineers. Jim decides to take over the ship and anchor it where the mutineers can’t find it. He is captured by the mutineers who go in search of the treasure. They find it has already been dug up and then the captain and Ben Gunn show up and kill the remaining mutineers. Long John Silver has agreed to be taken back to England. They then load the treasure on the ship and sail back.

I found the book to be very enjoyable. It excited every one of my senses with adventure, excitement, action and pirates. It kept my attention with the story and I couldn’t stop reading till I knew what happened at the end. The author used description and dialect to help me put myself in the story itself. The book was one of my favorites and I hope to find more like it.

It uses action in nearly every instance possible. The main story is a quest for treasure and that line is kept for the entire story.
