Why is sin so awful and grace so beautiful?
Sin is awful because God hates sin. People sin so willfully that they are not aware of how offensive it is to God. He hates sin so much that He gave His son to reconcile fallen man to Himself. Once man begins to realize that God does not take sin lightly, maybe there will be a greater appreciation for Jesus death on the cross. Also, God is so just that He cannot allow sin to go unpunished. Sin is so awful that no amount of goodness will overcome it. Sin separates man from God. It is a dying away of the spirit. Sin is the place where all evil comes from. Sorrow, sickness and death come from sin. The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ (Romans 6:23) Wages simply means consequences or earnings for ones actions and in this instance, its death. The gift of God is eternal life means that we have been given a gift through Gods grace. God did not intend for man to die, but because of sin, death became the result. Sin takes away ones joy and peace due to the separation from God.
Grace is so beautiful because it is a gift. Those that accept will gain eternal life. Those that reject it will receive death. Grace is Gods unmerited or warranted favor. Romans 5:20, states that where sin abounds, grace abounds much more. Grace would not be available if it were not for Jesus Christ. The manifestation of Gods grace is through salvation. For by grace you have been saved through faith, not of yourselves; it is the gift of God (Ephesians 2:8). We do not deserve grace, but God has given it anyway by withholding judgment. Because of grace, we are justified according to Romans 3:24. God provides for us daily through His grace. His grace is sufficient and empowers in weakness. Grace is redemption for humanity. All of humanity has the opportunity to take advantage of the gift of grace. Jesus death, burial and resurrection are significant factors for the grace of God to be made manifest. Without it, there would be no hope of salvation. Romans 5:19, states that by one mans disobedience, many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many been made righteous. Before Christ came, we were dead to sin. Through Christ, we now have access to grace. The benefits do not occur until possession of the gift is taken through obedience of Jesus Christ.
