J. Alfred Prufrock is a man that longs for love and dreams of a relationship; however, he is unable to separate from his life alone due to the glooming fear of rejection. Because of this T.S. Elliot portrays Prufrock as a somewhat shy character who hides behind his fears instead of confronting them.

Prufrock is not unlike many people in society today. Thousands hide behind the fear of rejection, and are constantly asking themselves the question, “did I do something wrong?” This brings about many different things. One being the obvious low self esteem. Prufrock displays this trait with his ability to always point out the negative things and to always look back on to failure. Instead of being optimistic about life, which most should be, Prufrock throughout the poem proves to be quite pessimistic.

T.S Elliot portrays Prufrock as a man that would much rather live his life accordingly with not accolades no honors just merely to live. This is most apparent when Prufrock say that he is not Prince Hamlet nor was he meant to be. His optimism and outlook on life is extremely low. Along side of this he is extremely self-conscious taken in account his baldhead and how this greatly effects his appearance to others. When in reality, everyone could care less being bald doesnt have any effect on your performance as a person. His confidence of being able to attract the ladies is insufficient. He says that he can hear the mermaid singing each to each but they will not sing to him. Although I am only sixteen from my experiences in the past most girls look for a man that has some kind of confidence; however, not too much that it is cocky but the right amount. And J. Prufrock is definitely lacking.

In reality J. Alfred Prufrock really only needs a confidence booster, something to get him going. Now I dont know necessarily know what that might be, but in simple terms I think he just might need a hot date.
