in the beginnings our relations with iraq were a little rough and ridged hoh ever we managed to get along with the iraqi government. how ever we must go farther back to understand how our relations even began. in the early to mid 70s the iraq and iran war started. however iraq did not have the funding for the war so we supported iraq by supporting them with about a billion dollars. this war lasted for about eight years befor the war finnally ended. as the years after the war wound on we became extreemly suspicious of the iraqi government trying to do things they shouldent be doing.
well shure enough our suspissions were finally relized in the late 80s iraq started to blame kuwait of steeling oil from iraqi oil fields. then in the middle of the year in 1989 iraq started to mass troopes on the kuwaiti border. then with in a matter of days iraq invaded kuwait and started to take over the kuwaiti government.
not to long after these events took place the us as well as other countrys started to try and push the iraqi army back into iraq. how ever this was not that easy. because the first part of this was just bombins raids. these primarally targeted radar facilities and air strips. what was so neat about this was that this was the first war to be shown on america telivision.
the next thing we did was we the us intered the ground war which took just over 100 hours or 4 and 1/8 days. in this process we the us lost aproxamatly 148 solders that is out of a death toll of about 170 solders. tward the end of the ground war we had the enemy so scared thet they were surrendering to our cammra men.
how ever in the end of our war in the middle east we still had not accomplished our goal. number one goal get iraq out of kuwait . our seccond goal was to get sadam husane out of office. we succeded in getting iraq out of kuwait. wow ever we did not suceed in getting sadam out of office. he still ruled iraq untill late 2005 during the seccond gulf war when he was finnally caught and sent tooprison andin 2007 he was finnaly prosicuted and sentenced to death. Finally in mid year of 2007 he was finally hanged.
