Introduction
The realization of potential risks to an organizations information system has been increased in the past few years. The principles of risk management, vulnerabilities, internal threats, and external threats is the first step in determining which levels of security are necessary to protect and limit the risks to an organizations information system. This paper will describe the principles of risk management as they pertain to the information system and its associated technology of the FBI. This paper will also show their vulnerabilities of their system and specifically address the nature of potential internal and external threats. The National Threat Center Section (NTCS) in the FBIs Counterterrorism Division is the focal point for all threat information, preliminary analysis, and assignment for immediate action of all emerging International Terrorism and Domestic Terrorism threats incoming to the FBI. Within NTCS, the Threat Monitoring Unit (TMU) has the primary responsibility for supporting the FBIs role in defending the United States against terrorism threats. Through coordination with FBI Field Offices, Legal Attaches, and other government agencies, TMU collects, assesses, disseminates, and memorializes all threat information collected or received by the FBI. A companion unit to TMU, the Threat Review Unit (TRU), analyzes the threat information that is collected in order to identify trends and prepares informational products that can be shared. The United States of America is comprised many companies, organizations, and agencies, which contribute to our daily lives and they contribute to convenience of our daily routines. Some of these organizations and agencies are also directly responsible for the safety and the well-being of the citizens and properties of this country. We often time take for granted how important and crucial this organizations is to us, and we often take for granted the consequences of what would happen in this organizations should it fail. No doubt I will be looking to describes principles of risk management as they pertain to the chosen system and its associated technology, the growth of technology has brought upon new changes and possibilities which seemed like only science fiction a few decades ago. We are able to do things that we never thought possible. The same applies to these organizations. One of the major tools of any organization, especially ones such as the FBI, is their ability to monitor and communicate with operatives around the world, if the information and the communication systems of the FBI were to fail, then that would open a window of opportunity for terrorists and opposing country to attack the United States.
