Intellectual property is divided into two categories: Industrial property, which includes inventions, trademarks, industrial designs, and geographic indications of source; and copyright, which includes literary and artistic works such as novels, poems and plays, films, musical works, artistic works such as drawings, paintings, photographs, and sculptures, and architectural designs.

diminished for the copyright owner when file sharers misappropriate music,” (Reed, Shedd, Morehead, & Corley, 2005, p.40).

The Copyright Act of 1976 protects against the illegal distribution of music and videos.
“Copyright protection arises automatically when an original work of authorship is fixed in a tangible medium of expression. Registration with the Copyright Office is optional,”(Radcliffe & Brinson, 1999).

President Clinton signed no Electronic Theft (NET) Act on December 16, 1997. This law was written to provide copyright enforcement, especially against kids.
