I believe life itself can be one great learning experience. It has been helpful to be able to focus on academic learning and what I can do to improve myself by getting a formal education. The past few weeks have been very revealing since I have had the chance to review my interests, strengths and goals. The inner reflection has revealed much potential for growth. Compiling this information will provide an educational map for me to achieve my educational goals.

Currently there are many times that I feel out of the loop and that I am merely reacting to the events happening around me. As an adult learner I have many ideas and opinions that a formal education will allow me to further explore and test. By testing those ideas, I will learn to be more proactive rather than reactive to situations in life. Gaining a formal education will also help me gain the work skills needed in the next century. The ability to learn and to adapt skills is an asset in business where needs are constantly in a state of change

The most interesting and enjoyable assessment was the career assessment that I did for my self. My interest’s inventory blended nicely with the final outcome of the career assessment. It was also a significant part that my family members felt the outcome was well suited to my personality. The career assessment indicated that I should focus in the computer networking field. This career interest me because of the leadership role required and the focus on professionalism. Most of the careers indicated as most suited to my personality require a bachelors degree. To achieve maximum career fulfillment of my long-range goal is to obtain my bachelors degree. Since one must walk before one can run, I intend to get my Associate degree by the year 2009. I will subsequently pursue a baccalaureate degree.

Basic education requirements did not vary much among the institutions that I checked. For most other colleges that I reviewed, the basic requirements included writing, math, history, government and some liberal arts courses. The basic courses required by many institutions are courses that I feel are not totally necessary for my education. Here at ITT Technical Institute, the general education courses would significantly increase my knowledge base. Examining each content area in which I am weak
