My impression of this book was a mixed one. If youre looking for a book full of facts, true life events, and is a little bit of a thriller this is a good choice for you. If youre looking for a good fiction story with a good plot and storyline this would not be one of your top choices. Personally I am more of a fiction kind of guy and I did not enjoy this book very much. It was to packed with information, statistics, and facts that personally I just didnt want to read. Now dont get me wrong this book was very well written, thought out and was very accurate, it just wasnt the kind of book that I like to read.
Richard Preston, the author of the book, did a very nice job of researching his facts and making sure they were all legitimate claims and I applaud him on this. If I had to classify this book in any category I would put it in the non-fiction thriller category because all of the events in this book were real. It actually scared me a little bit because of how detailed he was about the diseases and how horrible they actually were. I was actually wowed by some of the facts about smallpox and anthrax because of the fact that there is still a possibility of these diseases getting out into the public and you cannot
even imagine how horrible the outcome could be. Going off of the facts in this book smallpox could actually annihilate the worlds population.
I started reading this book thinking it was going to be much more of a fiction story than it turned out to be. I was not expecting the book to be so accurate in its facts. As soon as I was a little ways into the book my stance changed drastically. I began this book close-minded thinking that it doesnt matter because nothing like this will ever happen to me, but my opinion changed completely to the opposite after the book.
