The maker of Cialis already has voluntarily added a one-line mention to its label.

At issue is sudden vision loss when blood flow to the optic nerve is blocked, a condition called NAION or non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy.

Risk factors include diabetes and heart disease, two of the leading causes of impotence.

Says Cruzan, “NAION is also a problem of excessive use. It can cause long periods of unprotected sex that start to last for several years. It can result in long durations of abstinence as well as a persistent and debilitating feeling of loss of desire and desire to be with someone else.”The FDA has had problems with the drug since the late 1990s, and its efforts have failed. This wasn’t the first time the drug has been blocked in many countries. A similar ban was lifted in Sweden last year by a lower court. Since then, most experts agree that NAION alone is not enough for most. “The problem is that many companies have been slow to follow FDA guidelines or to follow best practices for safety and efficacy,” Cruzan said.The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has banned the drug from the market in over a dozen countries: Colombia, Japan, Uruguay, India, China, the United Kingdom, and Germany.

This doesn’t mean that it is okay to eat a diet high in saturated fat, high in cholesterol, and high in sodium. That does not mean that they should get all of each of them if they want to be happy and healthy. It’s just the way most Americans eat.

Our current nutritional information is inadequate, poor food standards, and too much saturated fat in our diets. This is leading to health risks, so there needs to be a concerted effort for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to develop the best way to prepare people for health. We must provide them more health information that is timely, reliable, and affordable, more affordable for them to eat, and that will protect their health through sustainable living systems for their health, without adding unnecessary burden on others.

Pressure on the FDA to investigate reports of side effects has increased since Merck & Co. yanked its pain reliever Vioxx from the market last year because of potentially deadly heart trouble.

Big money is at stake. Pfizer Inc. said in its most recent quarterly filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that sales of Viagra rose 5 percent — to $438 million — in the first quarter of the year.

Pfizer shares declined Friday on the New York Stock Exchange after news of the blindness cases.Warning labels— Viagra: “Less common side effects that may occur are temporary changes in color vision (such as trouble telling the difference between blue and green objects or having a blue color tinge to them), eyes being more sensitive to light or blurred vision.”
