IntroductionIn the United Kingdom, nearly a third of population (37%) suffers from insomnia based on “Epidemiology of insomnia: a longitudinal study in a UK population.” (Morph H, Dunn KM, Lewis M, Boardman HF, Croft P, 2007). To make sure that people need to have good quality of sleep, they have to have enough times to sleep. The aim of this report is to emphasize the importance of sleep, some possible effects of insomnia and introduce a new medicine for insomnia to people.

Some people feel difficulty to fall asleep, but others can sleep too soon and wake up early in the morning and many people meet both difficulties. Based on “Insomnia: Data focused commentary” from the National Prescribing Centre there are two types of insomnia called primary and secondary insomnia. Primary insomnia related to the sleep environment, irregular sleep routine and secondary insomnia has strong connected with psychological problems and physical condition. In addition, insomnia can be described in the long-term and short-term.Based on the article “Sleep problems in the UK highlighted” (National Health Service 2011), around a third of population in the UK has problems with sleeping and women seem to suffer more from insomnia. Furthermore, the elderly are likely the main target of insomnia. Insomnia also can result in several serious effects.
