Identity Achievement:
Where do people fit when it comes to identifying their identity? Is it a crisis that molded them into who they are? Or was it a role model that influenced them to what they want to do as a career? As a group we want to discuss what identity we fall under to see if there is a pattern and if so why does such a pattern exist. What determines an individuals identity status? Marcia classifies individuals based on the existence or extent of their crisis or commitment (Santrock, 2012). According to Marcia, there are four areas that form our identity, identity diffusion, Identity foreclosure, Identity moratorium, and Identity achievement.

According to our group and the discussions that were posted, there seems to me a pattern. For example, Brytnni feels identity achievement was where she felt that she belonged because she had lost a loved one at an early age plus her father and his brothers were an influence in her life goals. Brytnni says years later, I went through a miscarriage, break-up, and another loss all occurring within the same month. Given this situation, I took all the stress and pain focusing it toward my education and career choice. As time passed, I began to have a passion for helping others who cannot help themselves in medical need. Cathryne describes her story as being a mother and wife going through a crisis with her husband. My husband is a recovering alcoholic and addict so having to struggle with his disappearing for days at a time, finding out about many one night stands, his being in Kuwait and only calling us once every couple months and having to take on the role of single mom, taking care of the new home we bought as first time buyers and going to hair school all while my child was just entering pre-k was extremely stressful. Cathryne falls into identity achievement as well. Amanda also feels that identity achievement is where she sees herself. Being raised by a single mother who also suffered from an addiction. Amanda explained that she was forced to grow up quick and work multiple jobs through high-school and college to help her mother. She is committed to working hard and ensuring she will set herself up for success to be as independent as possible so she can provide a better life for her future family.
