Principle of FairnessPrinciple of FairnessFairness suggests that each person should make all decisions on appropriate criteria, without undue favoritism or improper prejudice. Fairness often has been used with regard to an ability to judge without reference to ones feelings or interests.

Not Compatible with:Rights – Sometimes, someone’s right would not be fair to others.Compatibility with other Ethical SchoolsVirtue – Fairness is one of major virtues and it is accepted as legitimate and reasonable by others.Common Good – Fairness would go along with common good, as long as everyone is treated equally.Utilitarianism – Utilitarianism produces the best outcomes for everyone affected. If everyone is getting their fair share, utilitarianism would go along with fairness.

Hedonism – The idea of Hedonism is the pursuit of pleasure, but the concept of fairness is to treat people equally without someone’s favor. There are occasions I need to deliver messages that are negative in tone, uncomplimentary, or critical of other’s performance. Typically, when I deliver negative feedback, I tell people how I feel about the negative situation or their poor performance directly. Of course, as I am not happy with the situation or their performance, the tone of the conversation can end up offending others and hurting the relationship. What I have come to learn about myself is that it is hard for me to talk to people about negative feedback positively, so in the past I have tried to either avoid a conversation or ask others to talk to the person.

I hope that you understand that the term “hedonism” is not applied to myself in positive ways. What I mean is that, for me, my positive feeling about others is often limited by the people around me who can be kind and supportive. If I was to express negative feelings about myself, I might need to ask around. In all likelihood, I may want to try to change others around me in order to be more positive about myself. That said, I might want to be polite or courteous and don’t try to be rude about others. However, even in these situations there are other people that you may need to reach out to to address an issue that may be difficult for you. If I wanted to avoid an important meeting for a longer time, I might not want to make a difficult decision based on negative feedback. For me, a longer time would benefit me.

The word “hedonism” has not been studied scientifically, but I’d like to make sure you are aware of the scientific literature and how this is used, and how it may be misused in different situations. If you would like more detail on how to use a neutral term, there is a link to the literature below.

The word “heterosexuality” might have been coined to describe a specific orientation. Many people think that this is the result of the “gay gene”, and I would prefer to avoid that word. It’s used to describe homosexuality and a range other types of different things, including homosexuality-phobia (homosexualism and the “biological “GHS” and others). You may use the word “heterosexual” in conjunction with one or both of the other two synonyms (in which case you may not use “Gay” and vice versa). These synonyms do not affect the meaning of the word but may affect how you think about it.For example, in this definition of “pity” homosexuality should be used with or without male or female pronouns, with a negative or positive adjective in either case, if any. So I would prefer to avoid using the term “heterosexual” because men and women are still very similar in all three areas. If you also would like to avoid the term in conjunction with a negative or positive adjective, there is a link to the studies below to the relevant literature. For my own personal biases, I try to avoid using the term if something is really important in the world that others might not be aware of and try to make sure that we don’t let the negative aspects in our life overshadow the positive aspects. As I’ve stated, I try to avoid the phrase “hierarchical equality of rights and privileges” whenever possible. This makes it less likely for me to express my negative feelings negatively. In this context, this is generally considered to mean “having the right to be in that situation at all times, without prejudice because of gender or race.” In addition, if I am speaking to another person at a party that I
