Jekyll and Hyde Police Report
London, Sherriff’s Office, October 12, 18— (2:30 AM)The following is a statement that I, Patrolman Jace Fagan, aged 26, residing at Roma St, London, took from Emma Bradbury, aged 31, maid, residing at 42 Asher Court, London, took in reference to the murder of Sir Danvers Carew. Upon my inspection of the crime scene I, Patrolman, Jace Fagan, noted the victim lying mangled in the middle of the lane. A stick of rare, tough, heavy wood which had been broken in half was laying in the gutter. The victim still retained a purse and gold watch, but no papers or cards were upon his person, except for a sealed and stamped envelope addressed to a Mr. Utterson.  I then proceeded to interview the witness, Ms. Bradbury.
On the evening of October 11, 18–, Emma Bradbury, reports having gone upstairs to bed around 11:00 PM. She states it was a cloudless night with a full moon out that shone down on the lane which her window overlooked. It was here that Ms. Bradbury states she was sitting when she witnessed the encounter. Ms. Bradbury states that she saw an aged, white haired gentleman near the lane. Then, along came a very small gentleman, within talking range of the first. This all being right under her window, wherein Ms. Bradbury, recognized the shorter man as Mr. Hyde. She states that Mr. Hyde had once visited her master and she appears to have a dislike of the man. She stated that she witnessed the older gentleman bow in greeting to Mr. Hyde and it appeared he was making polite inquires. At that point she states she turned her attention to Mr. Hyde and though he has not spoken a word, he seems impatient and irritated by the small talk. She states that, “All of a sudden Mr. Hyde broke into a great flame of anger, stamping with his foot, brandishing the cane, and carrying on.”  At this point Ms. Bradbury states the victim jumps back in surprise and then, “Mr. Hyde clubbed him to the earth and with ape-like fury, he trampled him under foot and waved down a storm of blows with his cane, under which I could hear bones audibly shattering.” It was at this point Ms. Bradbury claims to have fainted.
