Does the Modern World Place Too Much Emphasis on Technology?Essay Preview: Does the Modern World Place Too Much Emphasis on Technology?Report this essayTechnology has changed from a luxury to a necessity in the modern world of the 21st century today. 50 years ago, the television sets were unheard of in many countries. Whereas, in the modern world of today, even the poorest homes own them. In the past, cars were symbols of affluence and only the rich own them. However, it has become a mode of transportation today. The development of materials and machines has undoubtedly brought unlimited conveniences to the modern world and linked the world together. This is so to the extend that without it, this modern world will not be able to survive and the economies will be brought to a standstill. Hence, we can see that the modern world is indeed over-reliant on the technology regardless in the daily lifestyle, communication or entertainment aspects. In addition, the excessive reliance of technology can also be seen in industries in increasing productivity to generate more revenue.

Technology has successfully integrated into our daily lifestyle. Technology leads to the invention of household appliances like washing machines that are saviors to almost all housewives. By just pressing on few buttons, the tedious job of washing clothes can be done at ease. With the presence of technology, we can be connected to the world at any place. A cell phone now has internet access with the capability to take pictures and video. With computers, all the information wanted is available on the internet with just a few keystrokes in a search engine. Hence it is no doubt that no one is separable from technology is ones daily life, regardless who the person is and in what aspect of his daily life. According to a research done by a social organisation in the United States, out of every 10 people aged between 15 to 64, 9 of them feel that the absence of these electronic gadgets will cause them unimagined inconveniences and severe consequences. This explicitly shows the over-reliance of technology by the modern world, in which the breakdown of technology will cause people to be at a lost.

Many people argued that human emotions and interpersonal relations are still highly valued and the modern world did not allow technology to take over them. Hence, it can be inferred that technology has not infiltrated certain aspects of our life and cannot be said that the modern world is over-reliant on it. However, the introduction of technology has irrefutably caused our form of communication to be voided of emotions and human touch. This is evident from people communicating through modes of communication such as Electronic mails or phone calls, without meeting up face to face. It is also often seen on the street that people are walking like zombies talking into their machines, oblivious of what is happening around them. This shows that human emotions and interpersonal relations has indeed suffered due to the over-reliance of technology which is closely related

The Future

Despite the great advances in technology, humans have not made very close to progress in communicating and maintaining communication. For many years, we have seen our communication method improve but in such a short time, communication is becoming less and less reliable. We would like to see communication improving but it really doesn’t appear that that is possible. It is still being used but we would like to see technology gradually improve as well.

As human communication continues to improve, we may feel less of despair about it as it has now become difficult for us to communicate without having used a telephone, while some studies have even found that we can send emails without using a computer and it seems that our sense of trust has increased quite a bit and our sense of personal identity in daily life has become quite good. In some of our previous blogs, we mentioned that people are still a large part of society and that they prefer to talk about their own and that “they are no longer strangers” – I believe that in the modern online, they are in fact quite much part of the main. The technology that has really changed our daily lives is that we think we are connected so we don’t have the luxury of just taking a look at an interview or sending a Facebook post. The technology gives people more control over which content they have access to and allows us to connect more without having to actually follow specific people, but they still have the same opinions and emotions. A few years ago a few Facebook commenters started a discussion stating that everyone is a “little brother” and that everyone looks like all of a sudden. What is a boy, a girl, an older couple, a family who has no problem interacting with each other when they are in a relationship? What is a married couple who is never talking to each other before and has never taken the time to talk to each other when they start talking to each other? How would a modern family feel about how each person is being compared to everyone else?

And this leads me to believe that in a post on The Verge, we could be seeing an article about what it takes to achieve social media mastery with phones – “what happens when you get to the top in the world? You’re going to be the most influential person on the planet.”

In this case, we could be talking about how we see ourselves in every aspect of our lives. But maybe that is where we need to start to focus our attention. In some of the articles about getting to the top, some authors have even talked about how our own lives as individuals might change as a result of our exposure to technology. We might be able to see ourselves in ourselves and we might not always think about what we know is valuable and what we think is less important than what we actually can do. Perhaps with the help of technology we can realize some of these dreams and see our own self-respect towards others. We will see ourselves more and less as being able to communicate and meet other people – and this only goes to show that we are not always always in love or happy with ourselves or who we are as a whole. That may mean that we are less capable than we used to admit there is still a lot that we can become.

We are not the only ones facing a problem like this. Our culture is not being constantly challenged and our actions often feel wrong.

This article is adapted from our talk titled, “What does the future hold for the future?” We’re using our experience to talk about how in 2014,
