The Oxford Enlisted Professor (2007-2008)

I had the pleasure to meet the professor who is very nice and accommodating. It was very nice meeting with both the man and the student. Thank you. 8 years of teaching career in English (no degrees)

Alfred P. Smith, PhD

Dear Mr. Smith: I am currently an undergraduate student in Philosophy of Religion Research. During my time of teaching I read many of the books that I have been reading. However, I was also attracted to the writings of others, such as Thomas Nagel and Thomas Paine. During my time of teaching, I found the writings of other individuals to be highly interesting. As a result, I took a position in the philosophy department at Oxford University. Since then, I have developed a very positive relationship with other faculty members. My teaching is done by individual teachers and not by a group. My students do not choose the professor in their own way, but by their own way. Each student has his or her own style of classwork. I am an excellent teacher, highly respectful, and do my best to provide students with unique feedback.

Katharine B. Stapley, PhD

Dear Professor, I am looking back nostalgically to the past while pondering his book ‘The Oxford Enlisted Professor in Philosophy of Religion’. Since I was young, when I looked in and saw many of the references described, I believed it should be known that his was far from the sort of book that I would ever publish. However, as I began my PhD career I realised that I could produce the material in a manner that was accessible and accessible to all. The most important thing is that I have not done any research into the nature of religion. However, as a young man in the 1940s the word “belief” was used to describe what I regard as the natural, human, and societal basis for a belief (a basic human value). I think there is something much more important for us – and in our life today, many students and others – to explore. In fact, I’ve been reading about this in recent years and the great majority of the material I’ve seen in that work is of great relevance to the subject area: the ‘Enrolment of Religion in Society’. I think that as academics we should be looking for an answer to questions about the human nature of religion by exploring it in new ways. I want to address the fact that many students today are doing everything they can to avoid the temptation towards what they view as the irrationality of religion. I would like to address the fact that most of these students and others are not looking for rational answers on the basis of the Bible, but rather, the human experience as a whole – as opposed to a few short sentences of text. I hope that, within our society, we will look to human experience and the understanding of religion in the hope that as we develop our understanding of the human condition, we will see that some of the rational aspects of this behavior are at least somewhat rooted in the human condition – that is, human nature is an integral part of our very life, i.e., an integral part of our collective existence. One of the main challenges faced by our society today is “concern for the future”. “The present will have a major impact on our future”, is the
