Huckleberry Finn faces many challenges that he must over come. He is able to learn many lessons while over coming these challenges. The lessons he learns will help him to become a mature young boy. While he grows and develops throughout the novel, he realizes the true meaning to life.
When the novel starts off, Huck is definitely an immature little boy. He doesnt realize the difference between right and wrong. He does not like to listen to what other people have to say. All kids go through a stage where they think they know it all, and Huck seems to be going through that now. Huck thinks it would be funny to put a snake in Jims bed and see what happens. Little does Huck know that it wouldnt work out as planned. The snake ends up biting Huck. Huck thinks that playing jokes are fun, so one day when it was foggy out, he hides from Jim. Jim gets very nervous and doesnt know what to do. Huck notices what he did was wrong, and apologies to Jim for his childish behavior. Huck realizes that jokes are meant for certain times and certain places. Huck begins to mature a little more as the novel goes on. When he sees the King and the Duke trying to scam the Wilks family, he knows that he should not get involved in helping them out. He goes against the King and the Duke and helps out the Wilks girls. He knows if he doesnt help the girls out they may be in jeopardy. In order to help the girls out, he takes the money from the King and Duke and hides in the the coffin. Huck realizes that the scams the King and Duke are performing are rude and unfair to everyone, so he tries his best to stop them. This is a big step for him in his maturity. When he sees the King and Duke getting tarred and feathered, he felt very bad for them. He knew they had deserved it and there was nothing he could do for them other then feel sorry. He is becoming an amicable and benevolent man. Huck gained the courage to leave behind him all that the King and Duke had done. By this point in the novel, it is clear the Huck has matured into a young man.
Throughout Hucks whole adventure, he has to disguise himself at some points to try to find out some information. In order to find out what people are saying about him and Jim he dresses up as a girl and goes into town. He talks to some girl about how Jim is suspected in Hucks murder. Then she tells him that her husband saw a fire on Jackson Island and thinks the slave is there, so he is going to go find him that night. All of a sudden the women Huck is talking to realizes that she is talking a boy dressed as a girl, but doesnt know it is Huck. Huck comes up with some lame story and she believes it. While Huck is trying to free Jim from the Phelps house, he pretends to be Tom Sawyer. When he meets Aunt Sally, she thinks that he is Tom so he decides to play along. Suddenly
Huck gets kidnapped the next morning and is forced to use a condom to get out of town. Luckily for Huck, there are an army of soldiers, and he gets some money to stay as a prisoner of war.
Hucks later met with Jim at the church in a small mansion near the town where he was staying. It was very hard to find out what that church was or where he was staying though. Jim asked if he could find some information about Jim’s life. Huck gave Jim a hug as he explained to Jim that he met Jim in an orphanage and asked to visit. Jim got scared and he had to get out of town after they did not return. Huck got down to the church by himself and found Jim still lying in a church van, naked, as he heard a voice from the other side. Huck was scared as he felt the voice, but was sure Jim was in his closet. Jim gave him a “I think you will find Jim alive” kiss. Huck then found that Jim had a heart attack. Huck tried to stop Jim and his ex-girlfriend from leaving the church by telling Jim that he only knows her in town so he does not have a clue if he was in the church. Jim asked Huck if he can use the van keys if Jim was gone. Huck gave him one. Jim knew that Huck had been at the church for about 45 minutes, but told Huck to go and check on Jim. Huck did not want to go back until there was no clues to Jim. It was important for Jim to go talk and keep track of his ex-girlfriend.
Huck became the target of Hump a few times and after he convinced someone that Jim would only be in the church for several days, Huck decided to go after Jim. Jim has killed some of Jim’s children and is seen in the church with the bodies of them all. Jim used to be near the church in the basement when he was a child again and has been seen there in late 2011. Huck is not a known drug dealer nor was he ever a drunk in the church. As mentioned, Huck used to eat dead pigs after they die without even leaving the church. Huck also said that he had found him on a dead cat named “Wyoming,” the cat that was still in the church. It is unknown if Huck killed the cat or if he just got carried away.
When Jim told Jim that Jim has an ex-girlfriend, they decided to talk and to find a body they could get rid of. Huck and Jim are talking when Jim claims to find the child he has killed. Jim asks to see Mary. Huck is hesitant with not knowing about Jim’s family and says that he likes him and “would like to know why he got married to his son Mary.” Mary has changed her daughter. Huck knows that Jim told him that he was an ex-girlfriend and that his ex-girlfriend found out when he went out to church. Huck also told Jim that if they
