Marriott Springhill Suites
The company that I worked for from 2007- 2011 on the graveyard shift as a night auditor, is Marriott Springhill Suites. Although, Marriott and Marriott International are huge companies, they have over 1500 different brands worldwide. The Marriott hotels in each state and cities are actually franchises that Management companies buy and run as part of Marriott. So, Marriott itself is considered a large company, and the Marriott Springhill Suites would be considered a small organization. My position as night auditor is considered a manager on duty position. Which means, I have to run the hotel as my manager would, and to keep the customers happy. Manager on duty is a first level management position. The leadership in this particular hotel that is contributing factors to a creative climate would be that all creativity comes from the management office and The Marriott Company itself. No single hotel is allowed to change anything unless it complies with Marriott’s standards and rules. Franchises are so much dot like regular companies. Franchises have to follow the original company’s standards and their rules. The results of the assessment were as I expected. The questions were pretty much answered on the medium side because it is a franchise. Suggestions can be made but have to go through the channels all the way to the management office. The atmosphere is relaxed but professional. The risk-taking section is much of what was expected. The company does not take any risks, or at least tries not to. When you are scheduled for 8 hours of work, you have 8 hours of work. This is true especially on the graveyard shift, there is more to do then than in the first or second shift. There is no negativity or conflicts here, or at least not any known conflicts.  Although I have not been at this company for about 4 years now, the assessment was taken from my knowledge of the company 4 years ago. I worked the 11 P.M. – 7 A.M. shift, so there was nobody there but me, and the maintenance worker. Therefore, there was no creativity done on that shift. All that was done was to check guests in and out, answer the phone, stock the market, clean up the desk, and run the audit. A hotel audit is done after midnight to close out the day, put all the numbers in the journal, and make sure the books balance. If there is an error I have to find it and fix it, which I do always find the errors.
