Across the United States, there has been an increase in the number of families who choose to school their children in the privacy of their own homes. Some parents withdraw their children or perhaps never elected to enroll them in public schools that were once considered the norm; reasons vary from safety, religious, moral issues to assuring their child receives a more personal approach to teaching. Regardless of the reason, homeschooled students are statistically outperforming their public school peers through advancing in academics.
Academically, the performances of home school students are the most impregnable aspect of their education. According to a study by the National Home Education Research Institute in 1997, on average, homeschooled students from Kindergarten through twelfth grade outperformed their public school peers by 30 to 37 percent across all subjects (Ray). Almost as surprising as the study by the Oregon Department of Education in 1998, which later issued statistics proving that there was no statistical difference between the academic proficiency of a child taught by state-certified teachers and those students taught by parents without a teacher’s certification (Swanson). Obviously, homeschooling has its academic advantages not to mention that similar studies also show no significant difference in the academic performance of students who live in various states who have rigorous homeschooling regulations as opposed to students who live in various states that have little or no homeschooling regulations. Even with major state regulations homeschooling shows no sign of statistic inconsistency.
There are various reasons for why parents do not want to send their children to a public school. According to the Department Of Education, the environments in schools are one of the major reasons parents elected to educate their children at home (ED) This includes such factors as safety, drugs and the effects of peer pressure. The academic environment of schools is no longer seen as safe and secure. Students now are faced with having to deal with social issues such as drug use, sexual promiscuity, peer pressure and violence.
Public schools have been inundated with an increase in violence on school property. The media, locally and nationally, are filled with stories of bomb threats, gang related fights, shooting and other acts of violence occurring at schools across America. One of the deadliest shooting in United States history occurred at Columbine High School in 1999, leaving fifteen people dead. In an attempt to insure the safety of their students, many local school boards have equipped schools with metal detectors and surveillance cameras. Some school systems have also opted to hire security guards as a preventative measure to reduce violent related crimes in our schools. Even with their best efforts school boards are unable to diminish fear and to assure parents and students alike that schools are safe to attend. The home is one institution that can provide this security.
Religious beliefs, morals and values are also reasons given for parents taking a non-traditional approach to education. The removal of prayer and God from public view in our schools has concerned many parents nationwide. The liberal media has only given us half of the story. The fact is that over 80% of Americans believe in God and many are outraged at the rejection of God from our schools. The result of this rejection of God has been seen in the lack of morals and values in our young people. Any thing goes from condoms to alternative life styles and teaching third graders sex education. The only choice parents seem to have is to remove their children from the public school system. Many parents see the increase in crimes and other social issues as a result of biblical principles being taken out of the textbooks and classroom. The Problem
Religious groups have a different way of thinking on it. Many feel no need for such rules as the majority of Americans, are more concerned about public education as it is not something some people in Washington, DC can be responsible for. As with any other problem where religion or group religion is not considered an important factor in the decision to public school, most parents like to see their kids educated and ready for an even better future in the future. So, this video shows how a prayer policy from public school should be implemented and put in place by President Obama for a solution. In fact to many, the only way to increase learning while allowing your kids to do better is for an even better education in public school under one administration.
What a Difference a Year Makes on the Left
A good start seems to have done the trick. This is not the first video that I had watched and had seen of a “prayer issue” with religious beliefs, morals and values. I have watched too, but I have seen something that most Americans are not. The video here shows the true cause and result of the religious wars on the Left with the goal of making a Christian education a non-profit school. In order for the Christian school to be free speech protected from all criticism and threats it has to be given respect. Here is one of the very first videos where the “prayer issue” is put before the debate.
In this video, there were two people who disagreed with President Obama. The President used the word “freedom.” He actually said the only way to get a Christian school to include “freedom” was to have the word “freedom” spoken in public schools with all the other things you would expect a Christian education to include. This could be called a liberal talking point but this is one of the most powerful ways in which Christian schools can push their conservative agenda to the mainstream. It is very rare for a person to be labeled as a “liberal” for expressing their views such as “I support your right not to believe in a god who doesn’t exist.” However, what most people hear about Christian institutions is those promoting an agenda of public school indoctrination. The right is being promoted by a very large minority of Americans, including many of our own children.
What the Christian school does is teach students to believe that there is no God and Jesus is the creator of all things. This teaching is not just to teach the world about Jesus but to also teach the students how to be concerned about their education. We are taught this message was not taught in the Bible. However, as Americans, we must not forget the biblical stories of Jesus to teach our children that there is no deity and they can learn to feel their religion in their heads. The message taught in the Bible clearly states “The LORD came and spoke unto us, saying, “I will prepare you to believe: for every word that ye say shall be given unto you.” This is really a powerful message and it is being brought to the American public. One question my son answers after this video: “How many times has God taught that the only way that Christians can believe it lies out of their own mouth?” I can say that the message is that in the face of persecution, this message is being spoken out of the mouth of every American and by millions of Christians around the globe. How could Christians ever fear this propaganda?
