The famous book, The Hobbit continues in an epic new adventure in a battle between good and evil. The Lord of the Rings is the continuation of the great adventure lived by the clumsy tiny hobbit Bilbo. Both stories by Tolken share similar characteristics though also different aspects.

The two works of art have a lot in common. To start with, both stories share the same setting. All the mythical sightings previously seen in The Hobbit, such as the Misty Mountains and The Shire are once again shown in The Lord of the Rings. Another major similarity is the allegory that represents a battle of good vs. evil. Both stories share a character of only evil and one of only good. Two examples from The Hobbit would be Smaug and the eagles and from the Lord of the rings the evil Lord and Frodo. Yet another thing both stories have in common is the use of the same characters such as Gandalf, Elrond and Bilbo.

The stories, although very similar, also share a few differences. The main one is that in the Lord of the Rings the ring gains much more importance since the entire plot is revolted towards it. Secondly, the rings purpose changes from good to evil. In the Hobbit it brings only helpful actions and nothing of great importance though in the Lord of the Rings it becomes a force of evil. Another difference would be the stories mood. The first one, The Hobbit, has a merrier a mood while the second one has a darker and more mysterious one. Also there is a change of main character from Bilbo to Frodo.
