PURPOSE AND SCOPE
In America, being educated is both the right and the obligation of every people so that they can work for the Government or have a good job in the future. The American education system is well known all over the world. This educational system is run by the government of the United States and its funding is done at the federal, state and local level. There are nearly 76.6 million students who are at present pursuing education in America from kindergarten through high school. Americans employ about 5 million teachers to support the educational enterprise of America.

In U.S the first step to the climb the education ladder is kindergarten. It is mandatory to begin with kindergarten at the age of five or six. This is the first grade of the twelve grades of schooling. Unlike Canada and Australia in U.S, ordinal numbers are used for grading. The age for beginning the school is decided by the state law and therefore it varies slightly from state to state but mainly children are supposed to begin with the kindergarten when their age is 4-5 years. Students must regularly attend the classes till the 12th standard during which they turn 16-18 years old. About 75% of all American adults are high school graduates, and so are the younger American adults.

PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS
There are public as well as private schools in America. According to the government data, one-tenth of the students study in private schools, nearly 85% of students go to the public schools and 1.7% children study at home. Education in private schools is expensive in comparison to that provided in public ones because the latter are funded by the government.

Public schools are financed by the Government through the taxes, therefore, do not have charges. They open to all students that live within the district and to all sexes. Therefore, the girls have equal educational opportunity to the boys, and this is a reason to make the todays American woman become more self-sufficient. In spite of being requested to follow the state curriculum and teacher qualifications, in general, each Public schools are controlled by an elected Board of Education and the schools administrators that Board hires. The atmosphere in public schools is very comfortable for all students from different religions because of the freedom from the influence of any religion.

On the other hand, private schools are not under direct influence of the public. And to attend a private school, students must apply to be accepted as well as pay the tuition. The private schools supported by a particular religious group make up the majority of private schools, most of these are opened by the Roman Catholic Church. The other, nonreligious private schools, are mainly high schools and colleges.

The schools are mainly for six hours per day and there are 175-185 working days in a year. The American schools
