Functions of Management
Business owners today understand that to be successful they must have managers who understand the five functions of management. The five functions of management refer to the process that managers use to achieve work. These functions include planning, organizing, staffing, leading, and controlling. Managers who master the five functions have a much better chance to lead flourishing companies that employ happy associates.

The first function we will discuss is planning. Planning is identified as the initial function necessary for business. The general purpose of planning is to make determinations by analysis that are necessary to achieve the goals of the company for the future. The planning roadmap includes characteristics such goal-oriented activities and development of procedures to establish strong internal processes. Policy creation arranges the order of business. Policies ensure safety, guide staff members and establish the general attitude of the company. Compliance standards are developed, the risks are considered, and goals are set during the planning process. Planning involves the intellect to make decisions and foresee flexible circumstances. Logical framework trees are a tool I would utilize to understand the goals in projects. I would also use cause and effect analysis planning methods. Sound preparation of systems and methods can reduce hazardous pitfalls. Using business planning strategies improves overall business forecasting and affords businesses the understanding of their competencies to propel their business.

Secondly, organizing is the division of work. The purpose of organizing is to achieve the work efficiently and to meet the goals of the company. The process of organizing is to consider everything used and its function for example staff, material, capital or tools to group. Normally this is done by arranging duties by function and sub-functions. Other organizing methods group responsibility according to the nature of the work to accomplish. Simple ordering in chronological or geographical order is a great tool I would use when planning a project. Constructing a hierarchy chart is an example of an authority line in an organization. Benefits of organizing are abundant throughout departments. The organizational links that are achieved by identifying divisions and groups will create balance within the structure.

Staffing the third function, its purpose is to maintain manpower in the organization. The process includes recruitment, selection and enrollment of employees for the company (Leonard, 2013, p. 48). But likewise staffing refers to the development of employees through training, counselling and mentoring. Other staffing aspects involve effective appraisals, promotion & transfers and in some cases remuneration. Staffing strategies are essential in the manning process. Thus, finding good candidates for open positions within any company is critical. I would hold career fairs as an opportunity to find applicants interested in co-op opportunities.

The function of management that involves guidance, teaching and supervising is the leading function. Its purpose is to achieve company goals through directional communication that nurtures the subordinates abilities. Effective managers lead by encouraging communication,by sharing ideas, and inspiring their team which improves morale. In my opinion leading is the most challenging function for a manager
