Agricultural structures often reflect the culture of a particular society. An example of this is the Great Wall of China. Another example is the Egyptians Pyramids. Each of these structures echoes the culture of the people who built them.

The Great Wall of China was built during the rain of a Chinese emperor named Shi- Huangdi. Individual feudal states built walls to defend their land from invaders. Shi- Huangdi joined together these walls to create the Great Wall of China. Many laborers worked for years through bitter cold and burring hot temperatures. Many workers died of the harsh conditions. It stretched 1500 miles and was eventually 22 feet height and 15 feet thick. Shi- Huangdi built the Great Wall to protect his empire from invasion by nomadic people to the northwest. It became an important symbol for the Chinese people because it divided and protected their land from wanderers north of the wall. The Great Wall reflects Chinas need to be a strong and powerful empire. It also reflects Shi-Huangdis want for unity. The great wall also reflects chinas ethnocentrism, which is the feeling that ones culture is better than anothers.

Egyptians built pyramids to bury the dead in. There was no machinery to help build the pyramids so workers needed to do everything my hand. Workers built these pyramids my lifting millions of limestone blocks, sop me weighing two tons or more. Building a pyramid took so long that pharos often started building their pyramids as soon as they took the thrown. These pyramids represent the strength of the ancient Egyptian civilization. They preserved the dead bodies and provided them with everything they would need in their after life. It also showed the belief of the Egyptians in afterlife.

Both the Great Wall of China and the Egyptian pyramid not only serve practical uses they also reflect the ideas of China and Egypt. Each of them is not only important in their function but they are also very important to understand the type of society China and Egypt were.
